| Post subject: Technological & Industrial Help Required |
For all the hassles about Sat TV, here's my suggestion. For all the people who could read this, please have your input as to help liberalise China's people.
Sat TV requires 1) the Dish, 2) a decoder, 3) subcription card, 4) a TV of course. The problems here I see is the "DISH"
So...here's the idea. Make the "DISH" itself able to hide, more like to camouflage itself. Suppose can change its shape or so in order to fit into a A/C box just like everyone has outside the walls. Or...instead of a large dish, make it to many smaller ones that can become some sort of "DECO" for the wall and/or some "wall-like" smaller units that can also be installed.
This will have better results. 1) a new kind of business will begin. 2) by helping China's people to have satellite, people in other countries could also benefit from this. 3) you or the participants can all be famous and/or rich.
If China will do this over olympics, believe me, 2 years later, it will be a more serious crackdown!! until the day the so called "authority" feels comfortable on any press/media/broadcasting, I do not expect Sat TV will ever see the "light" |

Not Dream TV's fault if you bought a pirated box and don't pay them their due fees.
Dream TV also have a right to protect their own content.
The so called crackdown has not slowed things down at all but we understand that people are pissed off when their pirated system don't work.
Most of our orders are coming from expats who order 20 - 50 boxes at a time for themselves and their friends. |
I didn't buy it - inherited it, it was in the apartment when I moved in, complete with card.
How do you expect to sell satellite systems in China when they are illegal? Your "legit" system or otherwise, they are illegal, and the authorities are threatening fines and forced removal of sat dishes for those who fail to comply with the law. Seems your only customers will be criminals.
It looks like a pretty flawed business plan from where I'm standing. |

i know that I am a guest in China but boooh freaking hooo! What a joke.. Sat dish crack down.. What a waste of time.. There are more pressing things the government should pay attention to like better education in rural areas, pollution, poverty, inflation etc.
I love being here but have to shake my head when the government spends so much time and money on this issue.
People ALWAYS find ways to avoid the system, always. |
Not so long ago New York City had a major crackdown on the homeless people who would wash your car windows when you stopped at a light.
and thats in a free country? |

so what if they take it down. My satellite guy told me the dish costs less than 100 rmb and that if it is taken down he will get me a new one for no more than a 100 rmb. I wouldn't get too worried about any of these notices. Take it easy. |

FYI its now possible to deal with an authorised DREAM satellite agent or reseller outside of the Philippines. before they were ALL unauthroised agents even some would swear black and blue in the face that they were legal DREAM agents... i know better...
anyway there were the pirates... and some others charging far more, and claiming not to be pirates... names with-held.
finally its possible to buy a DREAM system (not including dish and cabling or installation etc) from Philsatcorp go see www.dream.co.ph
heres my experience
ordered a new satellite set top box online through philsatcorp. paid online using paypal and my cc. got the standard paypal notification, then had several emails from Jim also an email plus phone call from customer service (philsatcorp) asking if new box had arrived (which it hadn't after a week plus) and was told to expect it in another couple of days. it arrived two days later, plugged it in, had a simple issue with having to setup/match the LNB settings of the decoder with my dish, but no biggie as Jim called me (more than once) direct from Taiwan to help me with editing the settings. once that was completed, its been working fine ever since. clearer picture, no loss of transmission.. so all cosy in my lounge...
so for any doubters out there... its all quite ok. Glad i was able to get a new box at the discounted price... and not before time!
good luck!!! |

Yeah, well if Dream charged say, US$6 per month, I'd happily pay but that SH. local pr*ck that I contacted about a legit box & dish quoted something just completely outrageous.
I'll stick to my 1200 kuai setup and not get worked up by "No Right" outages. I've got a 50cm high stack of unwatched DVDs to take up the slack.
My, if the Sat TV gestapo started those nasty tactics in Suzhou, there'd be hell to pay. Of course, I could just put the dish INSIDE, because, believe it or not, satellite signals apparently pass through glass and curtains *rather easily*. |

yeah right the early bird price was RMB2000 with a new decoder 12 month subsciption. So outrageous. Now it's 3000rmb.
But hey, you keep those dvd collections handy.
Do you think any provider can charge US$6 per month and expect to stay in business? Sheesh |

Eventually if Dream migrates to N3, then sooner or later the cheaper alternatives will be available.
In the mean while just google DREAMBOX. The information may come handy later and continue to enjoy your Dream while it lasts. |

If you are looking for sports, then i would suggest the following;
1. TVANTS
2. SOPCAST
3. TVUPLAYER
(in the same order of priority) |

The muppetry of the Chinese Government never ceases to amaze me.
The fact is if Sat TV were illegal, it should have never gotten to this stage. Typically there is a rule made.. then not enforced.. then a big load of shiiiat to deal with the resulting mess.
The face issue of this place is nothing short of astounding.
On a separate note.. Kicking out all the students over the summer.. wait a go China Govt.. how can we improve the country for the Olympics? I know kick out all the students who have spent time and money to help evolve this place from it's 5000 years of history.. honestly what reasonable logic could there be?????????? |
