Funny to see in those visa thread how people complain about the bad chinese government etc. over such insignificant issues. Knowing that most of us come from countries that sponsor separatism in China (and other nations), kill people all over the world etc. Lets be serious. Those visa issues are just minor annoyance.

I'm not sure if I've offended you Cambronne however I was only seeking advice for my family's current predicament. I was making no comment on the Chinese government or its people. |

My God you are a douchebag. People in this thread are merely relating to their own problems and trying to find answers. Are you having Visa issues right now? Probably not from the tone of your reply. I bet your tune would change if you were trying to make a living, was established in a foreign country, and suddenly had to rethink everything.

No, it did not change. You can still obtain a one-year multiple entry L visa, but they are following the guidelines more strictly. |

I'm going to be getting myself one of those when I come back next time!
How do you go about getting that, though? I talked to Japan Visa a few months back and they told me that whether I was married to a Chinese girl or not, I can't get a better L visa than 6m multiple or 3m single/double/mult. |

but, i heard from 'somebody' that you actually need to go out of the country after 3times of renewal(without going out of China). |

You never have to leave the country -- never.
It isn't a visa you apply for from outside of China. Once in China on whatever visa you have, you go to the PSB with the necessary documentation and ask for it. |

Yes, multi-entry. I suppose you could get it before you leave, but why waste the money? You can get a fresh one when you return. |

I don't want to go through the trouble of applying for the initial L visa from Canada. It's not as cheap to apply for a visa in Canada anyway. I'd rather just have one before I left. It'd still last a good three months after I return anyway.
So, I can apply at the local PSB station, or do I need to go to the Entry Exit Bureau in Pudong? |

Local PSB stations can never issue visas. Only Entry & Exit can issue or extend visas. |

From memory you have to have:
- Marriage certificate
- Wifes Hukou
- Passport sized pictures (2 I think).
You fill in the form, apply and 2 weeks letter you get your visa. On the form you say whether its mult-entry or not since its a bit more expensive. |

I see you are American. Anyway this is not what is happening here. The problems happen for people who entered China with the wrong visa (e.g. tourist visa to look for a job). They know have to fly back home to apply for a proper visa. If they have a legit job, getting that visa is no problem. Those L visa matters, as explained above, are not so complicated, you dont need to leave the country. Being in a foreign country, working without working visa, etc... is certainly distressing. I do sympathise with those people posting here, though I admit I have no visa problem myself (I dont have a visa!). It may be useful however to understand the backround to this - years of laxism by the Chinese authorities, that comes to an end due to foreign governments meddling. |

Yes all these xpats starting to understand what it feels like to be an illegal Mexican worker in the USA.
I don't have any problems with visa's either. Bein considered a PRC citizen from that little renegade island across the straits certainly helps things along.  |
