if you don't take all the hairs and you don't leave a strip, then how is a brasilian wax defined in brazil? and don't say that it is just a wax (like chinese food in china is just called food).

to be honest, i've found two excellent waxers in shanghai... they pay even more attention than a some waxers i've known in other countries.

I lived in the South part of Brasil, and there we let a small triangle hair, just in the bikini shapes...But, Brasil is so big that maybe in some cities they take all hairs and in another ones they let a strip, who knows??? But the most brazilians women that I know have a small triangle shaped hair...I'm glad that you found good waxers here, I use to do at home, just like my nails...

ahhhh... the triangle... that is the same as the strip, depending on the waxer. i find that it is more attractive than a maw hawk...

do it at home? ouch! with a capital O!

one is private and doesn't see clients she hasn't been introduced to.

the other was at dragonfly on xin le road. since i haven't lived in shanghai in a while, i am not sure if she is still there.

I think it would be way better to try to wear it off instead of wax it off. More fun for sure'

Also I" have tweezers will travel"

OP, i've had three waxings done in shanghai to date. the first was at mandara spa at the jw marriot, and it was good, but rather expensive (think it was 350 rmb).

the next two times were at dragonfly, jing an location. again, effective hair removal and great service. i think they have one person at that location who specializes in waxing. about 100 rmb cheaper than mandara. i feel like trying a different spa next time - maybe apsara spa? it's priced similarly to dragonfly.

just a few more notes:
- in addition to waxing, they tweeze stray hairs that remain after waxing
- don't get yourself waxed just before your period! (if you are female that is) somehow it is more painful then...
- apparently tipping is not expected! i do wonder about this but have been giving a small tip anyway...

good luck!

There is this woman who turned one room in her apartment into a waxing salon and she does an amazing job. PM me for her number if interested. Also, her prices are slightly lower than the salons.

Apsara Spa and Diva Life do a much better job than Dragonfly for similar prices.

Hi Hi!

I will be relocating to shanghai soon and would like to find a place that does almost painless brazilian wax and quick too. The last few ones I tried in shanghai , a nail salon and 2 spas(wont mention name) took them almost 1hour!!
and it is much more painful here as well. that is so not acceptable coz back home they do for me in 15 min and is relatively painless in comparision.

I am so desperate that I am contemplating opening a wax salon franchise in shanghai. hahaha.

On a serious note, if i do start a wax salon , where is a good location with lotsa female expat crowd?

to pluck or not to pluck, that is the question.

nanjing road area or hongqiao... but really, anywhere that offers expertise services will survive. i would probably chose somewhere with a block of popular restaurants or bars.

one hour is ludacris! i don't think i've ever had one take longer than 15 minutes... but it felt like a few years at the hanoi hilton.

if you do open the biz, perhaps offering alternative services like threading would help.

best of luck to you!

xin tian di is too touristy and as you mentioned, the overhead costs won't justify the outlay. plus, waxing and food justou don't mesh. a few blocks away in a place where capital is put towards the enviornment/decor but within strolling distance to may work.

I would beg to differ, as I happen to know that at least during the week, the clients of spas and beauty salons are tai-tai's, and they make up 70 to 80 percent of the overall business. So I would say that Hong Qiao would be a great location, as a lot of families with kids live there and except for Dragonfly (horrible!!!!) there is no other place to get waxing services. If you are interested, please contact me as I might be interested in working with you...

That and the fact that they have no idea about waxing and they do an awful job (hair grows back fast, there a lot of hairs they cannot take off with wax and use tweezers, etc)...

I got my first wax in January when I went to visit the states. I got the landing strip(call it what you want) and I loved it. It was a bit painful at first with the waxing and then plucking. But ladies, your man will love it, if you know what I mean!

hi,
i have already written about this lady a couple of times, but still...

I can recommend you of the lady that does my waxing and eyebrows.

her name is Ortal and she is really proffesional!

she uses imported waxes and can uses different waxes to match your skin type.
also she has very good working techniques so even most delicate places (i.e brazilian.....) arent really painful..

if interested you can contact me by PM for Ortal's information.

good luck!

I don't think you should be posting her phone number on the website like this -- could get her some unwanted attention. I have already recommended Ortal to a lot of ppl but i think it is safer to just ask those interested to ask for her number privately...

I'd be interested in getting her number. Conversely, if you could PM me, I could send you my contact details to pass on to her. Either post an affirmative here or send me a PM asking for it. Thanks alot in advance!

Ok, I struck out on that one as she only does Brazilians for women, as do all the spas I have spoken to.

Does anyone know where a man can get a Brazilian waxing?
