Post subject: School recommendation for Pudong

Hi, we are new to shanghai and need some help with schools for my daughters. They are currently going to The Child Academy and I know there is a long waiting list for schools for 6 years +. I am looking into where they will go after the child academy. I do not have school fees covered in my husband's package so fees are an issue and the international schools seem so expensive. Are there any alternatives? My problem is that The Child Academy only has a 45 minute class of Chinese everyday so her Mandarin is not good so I may not be able to use a Chinese school. Should I move her to another school now to prepare her for kindergarten?

Beacuse the fees are so high for international schools I am considering home schooling because I have not found a school that is a good alternative that has lower fees.

Any advice would be great. We live in Pudong in Tomson Gardens, on Long Dong Ave. Thanks, Amanda

I am also living in Pudong,I am thinking about send my daughter to either Jin Cai international stream or SMIC.

Maybe u could find a mandarin tuor for your daughter.

I think Dulwish College is better.

it is Dulwich College and as OP mentioned a concern over exorbitant fees I am fairly sure Dulwich is prohibitively expensive

smics is very good in its chinese curriculum and Jing Cai is more of a local school.

Dulwich is good for its name I think, but quality I believe SMICS would be good for its money

Dulwich is a good school in name and in quality but is not an option for OP because of the high fee.

You mentioned about homeschooling. In case you're interested, there is a group of homeschoolers you may be intersted in. http://homeschoolshanghai.com

Do think twice about homeschooling kids 6yr+. It's easy to unschool kids under 6yo, but imo, the HUGH responsiblility to homeschool 6yo+ is unbearable to many people.
