Hotels – looking for something within vicinity within popular sight-seeing areas.
- nice and clean couple rooms, around 3 star rating and above.

Hangzhou – Westlake area, I had stayed in Shangri la before, don’t think its worth the price. So need some advice on hotels in the area…..

Suzhou – something within vicinity within popular sight-seeing areas, (ie. Canglang Pavilion (Blue Wave Pavilion), Lingering Garden, Humble Administrator's Garden and Lion Grove Garden)
I haven’t been there, so I am not really sure of the area. So thought would seek advice on which area to stay in Suzhou.

Hangzhou Overseas Chinese Hotel

http://english.hotels.ctrip.com/domestic/ShowHotelInfo.aspx?hotel=1962 &StartDate=2008-05-09&DepDate=2008-05-12

Right on the edge of West Lake, very close to restaurants and shops. Make sure you get a Lake View room on the 3rd - 5th floor. The hotel is bit old but very clean, their staff is very nice. I stayed there last time when I was in Hangzhou, too bad I couldn't stay longer.

Hangzhou--West Lake State Guest Hotel (Xi Hu Guo Bin Guan). It used to be a garden, the most landscaped hotel in HZ as per me. Just by the lake, the south-west part. But I heard now it's very expensive. They used to have army stationed there (as it's the State Guest Hotel). The Shanghai Declaration was signed there.

The best place in HZ, I'd say.

Shangri-la, as you put it, is nice, but way 2 expensive.

Enjoy your stay.

Suzhou--there is a Youth Hotel in Shan Tang Street near the well-known sight-seeing Tiger Hill, very quiet decent place surrounded with a classic and ancient atmosphere, have luck!

I stayed in Hanghzhou in a Chinese hotel 7 minute walk to the lake. It was really nice and not expensive, 4 stars. I'll have to get the name/address from bleucheese then repost.
