marinated mozarella is good too but for some reason, comfort food needs to warm for me to consider it comfort food. like gumbo. that is good. and not infested.

Favorite Comfort foods:
1. Dan Dan Mian
2. Ma Jiang Mian
3. BBQ Pork Ribs
4. Roast Beef
5. Kringles & A Glass of Ice-Cold Milk

I have a really good Kringles recipe, but you need a freezer and an oven...
and who has an oven in Shanghai?

mags: I wanted to say gumbo. I love cajun/creole food. But just didn't think it was readily available enough to qualify. But then again, I think the same applies for bagels.

Any place here in SH for good real bagels?

izanami ... I make gumbo!!! I need two seasonings from the US which are not available here ...

I know we mentioned before, but let's get together and have some ... takes a while to make but it will be super warming during these cold days!!!

Bagels ... in a word, no. I wish there were!

the bagels from city supermarket are not good. i'm thinking of bagels from this place called Murray's bagels in Chelsea, NYC. All kinds of spreads, and a great variety of bagels...so good that they don't toast it (because it spoils the texture). firm on the outside and chewy on the inside. hhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

Mags: yes, sounds perfect. what do you need? i'm heading back to Singapore this CNY. I'm pretty sure I can get some stuff from Jason's (this international supermarket we have in Singapore).

I'm thinking of corn bread now. yumm....

And honestly, I think wine, bread, and cheese are quite comforting on a quiet weekend night. But they probably don't qualify.

Oh yes all sorts of cheese and a good bottle of red wine, preferably from the fields of Nice is very nice, as dessert and as a moment to relax food.

Corn bread with turkey, hmmmmm

I have eaten the bagels from City Supermaket for years and am in agreement with Izanami ... they are not quite up to snuff! More like bagel-shaped bread than a a chewy, crusty NY bagel!

Shall have to try those from Meditteranean Cafe ... they are kind of out there, aren't they? So delivery is good!!!

Corn bread ... think I have seen the mixes available here from time to time .... shall have a look next time i am shopping.

For the Gumbo ... I need thyme, cayenne pepper and a spice called Tony's Creole Seasoning. That may be hard to find, but I have a friend in the US right now and if I beg and beg, maybe he will bring me back some! Think I can get everything else here ... except andouille sausage, but that can be replaced with something else!

Looking forward to gumbo night!!!!
