| Post subject: Climbing Yellow Mountain together on Sat, May 24 |
So many days i haven't climb mountains. It's time to conquer some famous mountains.Yellow Mountain is the nearest one to us, so it's my first choice.
Before visiting it, let's know some information on the grant mountain. It abounds in scenic and natural wonders. Among them, four sights are famous: special pine trees, weird stones, cloud sea and hot spring. There are well-known 72 peaks around it. What visitors know mostly are: Tiandu Peak, Lotus Peak and Bright Peak, 1800 meters above sealevel. |

the budget includes bus rent, tickets and food. we'll decide which bus is rent, based on the quantity of participants.

Well, according to my experience in Huang Mountain this April, 350RMB sounds very cheap which included bus&tickets if there's no more additional expenses through your trip. However, how about the hotel? Where will you stay when you arrive there? The food for 3 meals a day? Have lots of doubt about it. You really need to make sure about the whole thing.
FYI: We booked bus+hotel(included breakfast) on Ctrip.com which cost each person 450RMB in April(1 night in Huang Mountain, 1 night in Hong Village), the Ctrip bus carried our luggages and waited for us in front of ticket office. The climbing Mt on foot ticket is 200RMB per person. It's 80RMB if you just take the ropeway instead of climbing. |

we don't need hotel, because we'll come back at night:
for meals, we'll have a simple breakfast, a delious lunch, and a simple dinner. the cost of meals won't be too much.
for bus rent, we've fixed one 7-seated bus,the driver will be paid 300rmb
for two days, the cost of fuel, highway expense and park will be paid by us.i guess, the total cost of transport will be 1100rmb(driver's salary,fuel,highway expense and park cost).
in one word, we'll try our best to control the total cost, since this is our own trip. |

Woah, one day's trip to Huang Mountain will be too compact i guess, at least they need to have a full day for Huang Mt sightseeing unless they just take the ropeway. After climbing, it will be the evening time, even if you hit the road, you guys will arrive in Shanghai after midnight.
PS: We left SH at 7am and arrived at Huang Mt around 2pm, for returning to Shanghai, it would be worse, because the traffic jam was terrible heading to Shanghai and its' downtown. |

literally will take half a day to get there, if you take the gondola ride up then you will arrive two thirds of the way to the summit.
to walk to the summit takes a couple of hours, then there are all the famous sites to see all around there. so best if you want to save time, is arrive at the mountain very very early, then take the gondola ride up, see all the sites, though you will miss the sunrise, which is a fairly major event for the Chinese that go there.
most people make it a weekend excursion, though during the week would be better, cheaper prices and fewer people. most tour companies, make it a weekend trip, they take the tourists early in morning, make a few stops on the way, stay overnight Fri elsewhere then Saturday arrive at the mountain during the middle of the day or the late afternoon, take the gondola up then tourists and the tour guide make their way to any one of the numerous hotels on the mountain, early to bed, for the dawn sunrise.
all wake, wash, dress then quickly make the trek by torchlight to the summit areas to get there before the first morning sun rays, you and thousands of others!... though if one does this during the weekend, then guess most will understand just how ridiculously overcrowded it is with people jostling for their position. ridiculous!!!
also note that laowais cannot stay at all the hotels on the mountain, as usual the dorm room type hotels will usually not accept foreign guests. just local Chinese only.
the walk down the mountain happens after the sunrise trek, and can be quite leisurely even with a tour group. there are several route options, and one of which is often forbidden as its considered a dangerous route, not for the faint of heart. i did it, but cant remember its name.
all in all, i was astounded, bewildered, but surprised at the share size and infrastructure put in place. all the routes have stairways, and this is amazing to see first hand, especially for myself coming from NZ and having done mountaineering in the past. |
