Post subject: Sattelite TV ?

Dear All,

I would like to install the satellite TV in my apartment.

To receive HBO, CNN, and some french and american Chanel.

Do you know what is the best cost-efficient way to setup this in Shanghai ?

As weel, i need to provide the satellite to two TV, does that means i need two parabola and receiver or is their a cheaper way to do that ?

Thanks for your answer...

To answer your question, there is a cheaper way.

Depends on how far apart your TVs are though -- there is a device that transmits signals from 1 TV to the other one. You can use the remote control on either TV. Drawback is that you cannot watch 2 different channels at the same time on the 2 TVs.

As for your first question there are some changes going on right now. You can contact Jim at Philsat or wait until the transition is complete after June.

Post subject: satellite in China

FYI its now possible to deal with an authorised DREAM satellite agent or reseller outside of the Philippines. before they were ALL unauthroised agents even some would swear balck and blue in the face that they were legal DREAM agents... i know better...

anyway there were the pirates... and some others charging far more, and claiming not to be pirates... names with-held.
so now its possible to buy a DREAM system (not including dish and cabling or installation etc) from Philsatcorp go see www.dream.co.ph

heres my experience
ordered a new satellite set top box online through philsatcorp. paid online using paypal and my cc. got my standard paypal notification, then had several emails from Jim also email plus phone call from customer service (philsatcorp) asking if new box had arrived (which it hadn't after a week plus) and was told to expect it in another couple of days. it arrived two days later, plugged it in, had a simple issue with having to setup/match the LNB settings of the decoder with my dish, but no biggie as Jim called me (more than once) to help me with editing the settings. once that was completed, its been working fine ever since. clearer picture, no loss of transmission.. so all cosy in my lounge...
so for any doubters out there...

good luck!!!

I am totally baffled by the TV situation here. In HK we have one supplier (Now TV) and its all legit but in Shanghai it all seems very different. Question, how can I get the Premiership and Euros without breaking the law? ( I am due to move from HK to Shanghai in a few weeks)

Move into a complex that has "Government Approved " feeds/dishes. One central system.
No BBC, censored CNN
examples...Shanghai Center, Kerry Service Aprtments, etc.

Period.

Anything you buy/install that pulls Thai Filipine, SA...is not tecnically legal.

That being said...time to take a nap on the sofa watching baseball from the Dream dish...

This Ku band needed is a realtively small dish. 0.8meter I think.
And very light.

Need to be able to point it south (~ESE) with an unobstructed view.

Any wall will do...

Search the threads...a lot of recomendations for who you can use to install.

I would wait a bit though. Bit of a chnage...new boxes...on the Fillipine boxes.
Let that get sorted first if you are using a local...or contact SatTV on this site.

ok, thanks for the heads up - at least I hope its all resolved before August.

So, please excuse my ignorance but if, for example, i moved into say 8 Avenue, I'd still be able to put a dish in?

Sorry for droning on about this...

NP

- I know many people in 8 Park that have dishes.
- As long as you are on the south side....you can get a signal. Assuming no obstructions like other big buildings.
- Do read the notices/announcement boards in the lobbies etc. Evry now and then the local neighborhood government bureuacrats decide to clean up the "illegal dishes". They usually give you a couple weeks notice, then they come and remove them. So...a couple of days before, take down the dish, throw it in the back room....and enjoy the show as the boys come down on the window washing ropes removing the dishes.
Wait a couple of days....put it back up
Not a really big deal if you lose it. The least expensive part of the system is the dish.

If you do move into 8 Park Avenue, be careful, and lock your balcony doors at night.

There were a spate of burglaries there, where spiderman mingong were climbing down from the top floors and climbing in through the windows and balconies.

I know people living there that got burgled twice before they moved out.
Block 6 is the usual one that gets attacked by this. (The one in the far corner).

You might want to consider another complex - Manhattan Heights is also pretty close, and has had zero of those issues.

Maybe invisible grease or glue on the walls and balcony railing would be helpful

I live in 8 park. Never heard about these robberies. I am on ground floor though, so probably a bit obvious for them to try. Security guards everywhere. Typical, friggin useless though if they let this happen.

RE the Dish in 8 park. Yes i have one, but i got permission to put the dish on the roof of the building. I don't believe i have seen any on the balconies.

Drove by today, I'm wrong on the building.

Its Park Avenue that was burgled, 8 Park Avenue is the newer complex opposite side of the road (although I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't hit that side too).

The older one - Park Avenue was the one with all the burglaries.

My only experience in 8 Park is driving in to fix someones ADSL Wink

Hi I am also looking to install satellite TV. I need all the American channels (CNN, CNBC, blah blah blah). BTW, is it possible to get a provider that broadcasts ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX?

My friend had installed DREAM before and said its really crappy.

Thanks!

I have an XSAI box with a one year, legitimate card. I have continued to receive channels since all the buzz started happening but it has become unwatchable because about every 10 seconds there is a mechanical type of distortion of the audio. Video is okay. Has anyone else noticed it?

hi maestro2007, if you have a XSAT box you can have a legitimate card at all, the real one is that access card and receiver paired up, XSAT, BOLT, CDTV410/430 are most common pirated boxes.

hi januza, "none of them have signal" is not an acurate description of your problem, if you can not watch the channels, there's a error message on the screen, if the message is "No or Bad Signal", then you have to check your dish or cabling, it will be a physical signal receiption problem.

If you have an XSAT then you have a pirated card. The legitimate cards are the ones pictured below
