| Post subject: Ain't Wii Got Fun? |
Thinking about buying a Nintendo Wii when I go back to the USA and bringing it back to China. My question to the group:
Which games are the coolest?
And while I am on the subject, should I buy any other controllers or accessories when I am buying the unit itself?
Thanks for your replies! |

Good question. The unit only comes with one wand and the joystick. You'll need extra wands to make it fun to play with others.
here is my question to the group: are "fake" wands available in China ? I hate paying USD49 for a wand in the USA. |

Really Juan? How much cheaper? And aren't they regional, so if I bought it here I would only be able to play games I bought here (and are in Chinese?) And I would be worried about buying a fake one, like my friend got suckered and bought a fake iPod. |

I aint a gamer but my bro got one for xmas here and as far as we can tell is is real. The machines sold in China are chipped so they can play copy games and most games from other places. All his games are in English and i think they pay around 15rmb per game. So i wouldn't buy from the states:) |

game station on hong qiao lu near the zoo. games are 6rmb (except for the new ENGLISH version mario galaxy and super smash brawl - they're 10rmb each). the owners are honest. will exchange any that don't work. and will not sell knowingly bad games. santa claus outfitted our house with *all* of it this year. japanese wii, though. kids will figure out how to work it. mine figured it out w/in seconds. only thing we haven't yet is the wii fit. but they sell that too. |

thanks varkenmom! some other questions - are the games available in Chinese or English, or is it the same game and you just change the language setting? The Japanese Wii is from Japan, or Game Station sold it to you? That Wii Fit looks so cool, but surely they must be selling a pirated version of it - it's not even available in the USA yet - actually Amazon starts shipping today I think.
By the way, what games do YOU think are the most fun? |

I buy my games at Beijing xi lu. 5 RMB each.
With that price, you can buy any game you feel is good and discard if you feel its not fun. You can see from the cover of the game if its english or chinese version... |

Japanese Wii = Japanese cost (in RMB) ?
Also, you think the Japanese wands will work with a USA console (I can send 'em to my Mom and Dad). |

they have binders devided up by language. until recently, the mario galaxy was only in japanese version. they have at least 4 binders of english version games.
cost was about the same i would have spent in us dollars. game station sold it to santa claus - along with the transformer, which they taped on before allowing me to bring it home).
our american game cube controllers work with the japanese console (some of the older games require game cube controllers - but that's clearly marked on the game - GC in the binder). i don't know about the reverse, though. also not sure if my japanese chipped (??) wii can play those expensive american games?
the girls in the neighborhood love the karaoke-type games (hannah montana, high school musical) - requires a coupla microphones and the dance move games (the dance mat was a waste of money). the boys seem to find lego starwars, the new marios, golden compass, etc. all fun and a big time suck. the varkenfather tries to entice them all into playing golf (the sport games are a must).
granted, my kidlets are of the 10 and under set. the older kids (boys 10+) in the neighborhood would rather be playing halo on the xbox360. not something i'm interested in introducing to my 9yr old. |

Okay, now I find out the Wii is INCREDIBLY difficult to find in the USA right now. Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City, nobody will even take your money. They say it takes weeks to get, maybe even longer. So I guess I will buy one here.
Varkenmom, what are they selling it for there at your Game Station place? You said you trust them?
Anybody else know of a good reputable place selling the console, and what it costs?
Thanks! |

In March, I was looking around and was quoted 1480rmb for the console, 1 controller, and 2 games, I didn't buy it b/c I was leaving a few weeks later.
This was at the PC Mall across HK New World Mall. First floor, can't miss them, believe they were the only ones selling Wii on the first floor, didn't see any on other floors. |

Laura Croft Tomb Raider. Just make her jump up and down all the time. Game programers have vivid imaginations. |

Just a quick update for all Wii searchers - I visited three shops in Xujiahui/Metro City today that sell Wii stuff. They all had plenty of accessories and games, but none of them had the console itself. If I find a place that has them in stock I will report back.
And on another note - why the hell doesn't the Nintendo corporation just make more of these things? Build another factory, and when demand for the Wii runs low just release a new one or some other product. It sounds like they could sell tens of thousands more of the console alone, never mind accessories and games. They are so hard to find in America and around the world, I guess this "shortage" is by design, but wow it is frustrating. |
