Post subject: Putuoshan

Could anyone advise good travel agent to book fast ferry to Putuoshan for June holidays and can you recommend accomodation + contact details? Are on the island any nice hostels/small guesthouses? Dont like big chinese hotels much..

Supposedly you can get the tickets in Jinling Donglu 59 near the Bund or under the Nanpu Bridge in the Tourism Centre.
There are no hostels on the island. The most comprehensive info on Putuoshan island is to be found on putuoshan.net. There is an English version of the webpage but it is not complete. There is a number for reservations, but they only speak chinese... I don't know if you can book a room on the webpage. The hotels also help you to order tickets for the boat. You can pick up the tickets juist before leaving, very convenient.
Make sure to book a round trip. I hear it can be tough getting a ticket for return once you are on the island.
Maybe we'll see each other on Putuoshan!

Thanks guys, will go for the hotel then, although was just told that usually tehre is no problem with private accomodation on the island as almost every family house now offer rooms to rent. But not so safe durign main holidays..

Putoushan is an overpriced tourist area. Prepare to pay through the nose for everything and wade through throngs of tourists all trying to be at one with nature.

I just completed my Weekend tour to Putuoshan. The best way to Reach Putuoshan from Shanghai is to take Overnight Ship which takes around 12 hours to Reach Putuoshan. And ya, Putuoshan is little bit costly, but the places (beach, greenary) and fresh air make the money worth to it. Hope you will enjoy too.

Not bad at the end, beaches are Ok, nice mountains all clean and fresh! Crowds are around teh main attractions, but you cna still find couple small temples where is literally noone, was sitting in one of them alone with local monk for hours, watching the boats passing by. Well not much of real China there, but if you just want to relax and dont bother with anything is an easy place to go.
