I was here in 1990, on the faculty at Fudan the first year this policy was put into practice. Really, I know why it was instituted. I don't blame the government for trying to reign in renegade college students who, at the time, were receiving a free education and housing thanks to the government they were protesting against. Order is why governments exist. But don't kid yourself that this wasn't a punishment for bad behavior.

I don't have any problem with a country requiring military training or civil service for its citizens but you are delusional if you think these type of programs are just to improve people's work habits or health. The word discipline means instruction given to a disciple and a disciplinarian is one who enforces order. Just be sure you know who your master is and what their vision of order looks like.

BTW, I'm not saying it's effective. It seems to be about as effective as the old required Marxism and Mao Zedong Thought courses. Students could parrot back what they were supposed to have learned but it rarely really got them thinking.

I don't know the past military training's purpose. You seem to be kinda correct.
Anyway, I think the current military didn't make me feel that way about what you said . It is just a common trainning and a funny experience for the students who joined it.

Don't worry, this kind of compulsory military training is far from that of regular army, and even further from that of Taliban and the old japanese Army.
I'm not sure about the reason why you so upset about China's compulsory(compulsory? Maybe!) military training, but what I'm pretty sure is that the last thing in the world we can do is to create even a troop like the American Army who are so into maltreating and killing civilians and raping women in their taken or stationed territory.

I can also train some people about how to hook their women without any spiritual sharing or without any material payment personally in here and it is free, but you have to help me avoid any your sisters from their insane jealousy of that at same time, thanks for reading and understanding, bye~~~~

Well, Military training is not unique in China.

As far as i know after graduation from high school, alll German boys are required to select about a year military training or some social service.

In Singapore, all men are required to spend some time in army every year (or every several years).

My classmate had 2 months military training , after she came back, she looked so healthy and stood more elegant and looked firm. She looks so great, at least in a short time, no longer like a spoiled kid who is always lazy and needs mom's care.

l don't know what is the problem with a short term military training. I think young people especially those who were born after the one-kid policy need it!

Belgium used to have a compulseray military service, was so lucky (vomit) to be in one of the last calls... bugger. Finished now and good too, only learned to drink more beer.

While living in vietnam (2001) I saw kids, guess around 10 to 12 yrs, getting training near hoam kim lake. Thats like city center... Lesson of the day was aiming with (wooden) rifle, different shooting positions... As i understood it was compulsery for both boys and girls.

Nah, let them grow. The higher they stand, the better we can give them a warning shot between the eyes. Bring back the good old times, sigh...
