| Post subject: Health Report for Working in China |
Hey everyone,
Really appreciate any help with this: Trying to get all my documents together for coming to work in Shanghai, and I need to get the "health report". Does anyone know what they are looking for? Do I need to have specific tests done? They told me to check with the embassy here in Canada, but they seem to never answer the phone during their supposed office hours. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!! |

You have your health check here. Your HR department will organise this for you. You go to a special clinic which will be full of foreigners looking totally bewildered but the little nurses are very kind and will make sure you get every check before you leave. |

Yes, as per above. No point bringing in a Health cert from your home country, it won't be recognised. |

This my experience as well. They HR set up for me and the nurses will make sure I get everything necessary for my HR. |

I recently came to China (late May) and was required to do a medical check in my home country before I could get my visa. Apparently it was a new requirement and came in on May 1st. It involved tests for HIV and other STDs, ecg, chest x-ray and other general questions. You then have to do another check when you get here that is very similar!

When I had my test here a while back, one of the HR girls came with me to pick up the test results. She gave it a quick scan and then looked surprised and said 'Oh, you don't have Aids!', like it was a revelation to her. |

Health check is normallly done at the hospital in Jinbang Lu (close to Shanghai Zoo). Takes about 45 mins and is pretty efficient. In 4-5 days you get the report. Especially the eye and ear test are funny...they take about 1 minute each and as long you are able to see or hear something you pass. |

We came here beginning of June.
In order to get his Z-Visa my husband had to fill out a Health Check form and to hand in an AIDS test (original)
Actually it's the form which I used for my X-Visa (student) several years ago.

We didn't do all the tests which are on the form. (Because it's really expensive to do it in our homecountry and since you have to do the WHOLE check-up in China again ....  .)
I filled in the form - stating "normal" blablabla "no abnormal findings" and our family doctor signed and stamped it. (With a lot of RED stamps  don't forget to stamp the photo as well )
With this and the Aids test we got our visa with no problem.
(For the X-Visa they had wanted original Aids test, syphilis test and the x-ray report -> but you didn't have to do the health check again!!) |

Yeah, I got that same form from the UK embassy in London. As soon as I got here they said it was out of date and not valid and had to pay to have the health check done here again. |

You really have to get it done 2 times (one in your home country and one in China)? It that a rule or is it enough to get it done in China and then go back home to apply for Z visa using the one from China? |

Really? They didn't accept the form or the tests you did in the UK? It seems like there is no straight answer to these questions, sometimes they accept it sometimes not... Well my employer just advised me to send them the regular health checks I get done at my family doctor and try to see if they'll accept that. But if not then I'm just going to get a regular travel visa and try to get it done in Shanghai |

The most interesting thing is comparing your health record when you come to China, with the one when you leave. You will notice a striking difference. |

The Chinese embassy in Canada will only issue the Z visa with this form and the negative aids test.
In Shanghai they won't accept this health check form and make you do it again. (So we had 2 aids tests within 3 weeks )
With the health check done in Shanghai u can apply for the work permit. |

According to yu888 guide you can do the health check in China and then apply for the z Visa in your home country. |

If you push them on it here, they will only make you repeat the blood work. I think the whole issue is that they just want the additional income from making everybody -- whether they need it or not -- pay for a medical examination. Keeps people employed, you know. |

Yes, underh20 I think so too.
And besides it's much cheaper than in most western countries, isn't it?
(I already paid 40 Euro to shake hands with my family doctor and for his signature and stamp and additional 35 Euro for the aids test ....  Don't want to know how much it would have been to make the chest x-ray, the ECG and all the other stuff ....) |

The whole double health check is a little odd to me. Especially considering the one in Australia is much more thorough then here. For example, the Chinese consulate gave me my visa when my GP signed my certificate with 'abnormal' ecg tests. Then the test here they didn't even notice the problem! Must be a money making scheme to give more people jobs.
When would they actually turn anyone away, apart from having HIV or maybe TB?
As for the costs, much cheaper here. Paid 700rmb here for the check and 2600rmb back home... |

Its probably the only time you will go to a Chinese hospital and not end up on a drip. |

I took mine on July 26th and to be honest..the health check is a bit odd..some of them are quite interesting..and they do it without telling me what the tests are for..weird..oh well..cheap and fast! |

It depends which country you are applying from - I am applying for my Z visa from within SE Asia and have to do an extremely detailed - and expensive - health check, which I then hand in with my Z visa application.... |
