The flags are up on main street and I'll be getting home just in time for this....

8 AM Flag Raising, community potluck breakfast (mmmm, first biscuits in 10 months)
9 AM Cat Show
10 AM Cake Decorating Contest
All day Lemonade, turkey legs, pulled pork, pizza, art and crafts for sale (no deepfried Twinkies)
10 AM Mutt Show
11 AM Dunking Booth (This will be the first time in four years that I'm not the barker for this. Shagging the balls is the real back breaker.)
11AM Children’s Games-Fortune Teller - Face Painting
1 PM Carillon concert
2 PM Parade (usually includes a variety of guys on fourwheelers, horses, and anti-war prοtesters)
3:30 Air show
6 PM Free airplane rides
6 PM Block party/potluck dinner
7 PM Outdoor bluegrass concert
7:30 PM Outdoor Pops Concert
Dark FIREWORKS (viewed lakeside or from my bedroom window)

Not bad for a town of 2500.

The American Chamber of Commerce is doing their annual Independence Day bash again this year:

http://www.amcham-shanghai.org/AmChamPortal/Event/EventDetail.aspx?Eve ntId=3416

RMB 350/400 members/non-members.

A bit too rich for my blood.

It's funny, you think you speak the language, and then suddenly you get something like this:

I mean, what on earth does that mean?

What?
No speaka da eng?

Claewr as the noob on tyour face.

A Dunking booth.
A person sits on a bench over a large tub of water.
People pay for the chance to throw softballs at a target...which is connected to the release mechanism of the bench the person is sitting on...hit the target and in they go.

The barker is the person who is running the game..."barking" at people to step right up and take their chances. Three throws for a dollar.

The barker also has to pick up the balls that are thrown and miss...for the next lucky contestant. A day spent bending over to pick up the misses will give you a very sore back indeed.

Simple English lads...

I can't help but brag a little.....

Won't be in Shanghai, won't be home in NY, but I will be in Sweden seeing the Boss, Mr. Springsteen with a few thousand others. I think it will be a very memorable 4th of July.

Have fun at the Dunking Booth!

What I love about the AMCHAM party is that only 30% of the people that attend are American.....now the tickets are sold out!

Definitely sarcasm. I am american and I have been trying for 2 weeks to get tickets...after attending for the last two years, I know that many people who attend are not american after all.
