Post subject: LEAVE FOR SHANGHAI IN 8 DAYS,MATE WANTS TO COME???

Hi all

I have accepted a job offer and leave for Shanghai in 8 days and cant wait. Laughing

This is my only problem, I have a really good friend who last night announced that he was coming with me. Shocked I asked how he would survive with the little savings he has, not a problem, I will get a job teaching English Shocked He has no TEFL, no degree what do you guys think his chances are of landing a job and not spending the whole time sponging off me Question
In his favour as I see it,he is British, and looks the part at least the women think so...
Please give your honest opinion on this as I dont want to loose a good friend over what I see as a foolish move.

(I am leaving in 18 days)

Is your friend going to stay with you? Give us some more context. Is he just a friend? More than his job situation, I see his staying with you becoming a problem, especially if you value your independence and finances aren't strictly worked out (who pays rent, etc.) You may both become resentful.

I havent got a problem with him crashing at my place,,,the big problem for me is will he be able to secure a job with no teaching qualifications or degree?
I understand where you are coming from on this one, but he says that as soon as he gets a job he will get his own pad....

What other qualifications does your friend have? Teaching English is possible without a TEFL cert and the money isn't bad -- but it's not great either, maybe RMB 150 per hour if he's lucky.

But maybe he has other marketable skills? Or enough money to start a company of some kind? (That's probably his best option if he has some business sense and an idea of what to do.)

He will be able to find a job teaching English. Know someone who arrived ten days ago and was working out his lesson plans five days later.
