| Post subject: New Ford Mustang |
I saw a guy driving down Chang le lu yesterday afternoon in a brand new black Ford Mustang, anybody know how he got this car and how much it would cost here. I don't think he just popped into a Ford dealership and ordered one................
Any thughts out there???

Its the 2007 model bought from a chinese guy who imported it.
The rims, tyres, suspension have been changed, and the front has scoops installed. He's also changed the ECU.
Its usually parked outside my office, as the owner is a friend/office+apt neighbour. |

When you see it in front of Big Bamboo stand there for about 5 seconds, the guy loves to come out and talk about it. Hes a tall asian guy usually playing pool. |

if add all the import duties, u're looking at ~60-80% more than what he could get it stateside. |

Well then if in the states that car is about max $30k, double the price for all the stuff mentioned above, therefore $60k, so about rmb 410 000, not bad if you consider the size, power and type of car......... |

yes, that was done on purpose. the costs u mentioned is what u'd have to pay to make it "street-legal." my cost estimate was simply what it'd take to get it here.  |

What's wrong with having a nice big fat V8, who cares about the traffic, it's about the pleasure of driving and listening to the V8..............why should we sacrifice our desires just because there's a lot of traffic and the price of petrol is high............if you can afford one then why not............
I do agree though that there are many drivers out there who shouldn't be driving these kind of cars, specially with the lack of experience they have............. |

hey if you can afford it props to you.
but driving a V8 like that here? how are you gonna open the thing up on the roads of Shanghai...unless you go out of the city and tear down the highway, i can see that...but having a car with that much power in a congested city just doesn't make sense and is just a waste...it's like the numbnut you see circling around the beach boardwalk with the music blaring just to show his car... |

Hi guys, somebody sent me this thread, so I though I'd do a quick reply, the Mustang is a 2006 S197 Mustang GT, stock BHP is 300, now with Cold Air intake etc, Kooks LT headers, Off Road X pipe, it's adding up to around 340HP, (recorded on Dyno in Tian Ma race track). It has been heavily modded with Steeda 90mm CAI, Functional Dual Ram Air hood), Kooks Long Tube headers, X pipe and GT Catbacks, FRPP Front and back Sway bars, Dampers, shocks, lowered susspension, OZ Racing Superlagera 20" 3 piece wheels, Brembo 6 piston GT big Brakes, SCT x3 tuner tuned by Bamachips, emailed in 2 hours. Hurst Competition short throw shifter, these are the performance modifications, I won't go into the frilly stuff.
When importing a car, the tricky bit is the licensing, you will not have a problem importing if you want to buy the car stateside and ship it over, however, you will have problems once it lands here, the value of the car isn't calculated based on MSRP, but rather what the customs guy says it's worth. on top of that it is calculated cumulatively, so add, you car value, Shipping value, than add on import tax, and than add on landing tax, and than add on consumption tax and than add on CCC certification costs, they wanted 2 cars so they can take one apart to pass CCC, but there was a fast track where you can have them go through the car as a individual import. after that there is the motor registry part and this is the vital process, coz they can reject you import and send it back, then you will be f**ked, plates will require further consumption tax, there is a emissions tax and testing as well.
Chinese website says they will import the car, I called them and they wanted RMB1.2 million, I told them to get stuffed, so I was going to take the risk and bite the bullet to bring the car in myself, I have contacts in departments that might have made thing easier, and they tried to talk me out of it, coz they couldn't guarantee that it would be smooth sailing. I ended up getting the car off a Chinese guy who brought it in for a car magazine shoot, test drive and write up, it had 3k on the meter when I got it, it is an exceptional Stang, my Mechanic said he saw them test drive this on the F1 track and the guy that was driving it couldn't dig the Limited Slip Diffs and was freaked out by the slides on the car, ( which in my opinion, is the way a Mustang drives) great drift car.... Anyways, I think Chinese drivers want great handling German sports cars, and don't quite get the Muscle cars, I changed the handling and make great difference now.
The car is not mainly meant for Shanghai street driving, though it see a lot of Shanghai streets, currently, it spends about 3-4 days a week on the track and I am contemplating for it to eventually end up being a track car later on If I can resist supercharging it, It won't be allowed on the streets as a modded vehicle..., or it might be sold, subject to successful import of a 500HP 5.4L Shelby GT 500, which will be street legal coz the supercharge is stock...
Interesting to see the negative comments about other people's interests and hobbies on this website though, I agree that the Mustang is no good on Shanghai traffic, but sometimes it get you from A-B and it definitely gets you to the race track. There is a red Vette cruising around somewhere in SH too, saw it mid last year.
But sorry, i will take a Musttang over a Camaro anyday.
Liquid Impact- Thanks for the post! It is a nice car and really refreshing to see on Shanghai roads, even if its a bit of a bull in a glass shop (China store would be a bit... nevermind) If you see a helmeted bicyclist pull up next to you and wave, or stop by the BOO, say hi!

I would like to see cars that have a bit of personality in them, which means modification to me, if China wants to raise the car in transportation design they need to let people get involved from a grass roots level, and that may teach them about driving coutesy and general logic of driving.
All these Porsches, Ferrari's being driven by people that never actually drive the car like it was designed (weekend Highway) and choke the s**t out of those beautiful machines. I take the point on emissions and stuff, but the day they ban the bus and truck spitting that black gunk into the streets and they sort out their traffic laws, such as right turn on red permitted into bicycle lane on right etc, if they let me have a Triumph 1200cc I will consider handing back the keys on the V8. I would like a old car anyway, coz they don't build them like they use to. my dream car is...

Liquid Impact, nice to see that you showed up, I only had a quick glimpse at your car, as I was driving up changle lu yesterday, and recognised it straight away, great looking vehicle mate. Who cares if the roads of shanghai are busy, you can drive it at night as well or take it onto the track, life is made of pleasures, I find it very frustrating that one has to stick to the cars offered in the chinese market at ridiculous prices, am sure by importing, things get difficult, and maybe you end up paying those ridiculous prices as well, but at least you get the car you want. I love those american muscle cars and it really pisses me off when you see the prices in the states, starting price for a new mustang is $20k, crazy stuff.
Anyway I hope to bump into you Liquid Impact, it would be really great to have a look at the machine.

Oh yes I agree, all those turds driving Ferraris or carreras, specially women, if you look at their faces, it looks like they've seen a ghost, they drive so stiff, cos they sh.t scared of crashing or pressing the accelerator too hard, and maybe they've been driving for 1 year or less, there are 2 guys who lives in my complex with a ferraris, the only time they use them is on a friday night at about 2am for a 30min spin around Gubei and then back home..........pathetic......
I agree with Liquid Impact, what about all those old diesel trucks and buses spitting out badly refined diesel........... |
