You can find faked products of good &bad quality in Hongmei Lu, Qi Pu Lu is more of a place for local ppl while Hong Mei lu is more for foreigner, it's kinda another xiangyang lu.

Science and Technology Museum (subway station). Also the one on Nanjing road is geared pretty much toward foreigners. Qipu is the only one I've been to and not seen a lot (or any) foreigners. |

You mean the underground market at the science and technology stop?
S&T means Science&Technology?
I passed there once, but didn't look around, is it good? |

I'm looking for good tuxes, I need ten of them and I'm looking at a maximum budget of 1700 RMB each, where is the best place (tailor or market stall) ?
Basically best bang (quality) for the buck. |

I purchased 5 tuxes from Le Qi Fashions, Stall 242 in the past 30 days and was very happy with them.
My price was approximately 60% of your budget and included a jacket, pants, shirt, vest, bow tie and neck tie. Cumberbunds are also available.
When you visit No. 242, tell them an "older" American named Roger sent you, and perhaps they will give you a better price than mine since you are buying more than I did.
Good Hunting!

Lurker,
When you go for shirts, you might want to try Shop No 329.
I've purchased over 30 shirts there, for myself and friends, and every shirt has been excellent. The prices are also amoung the best that I've found in Shanghai.
Tell the young lady in shop N0 329 that an "older" American named Roger sent you, and perhaps she will give you prices approximately the same as mine.

I don't know much about them, either.
It seems that these expats here in Shanghai are more professional in bargaining and exploring such places.
I will explore the S&T market soon.
you can find the address of the fake market in the last few posts. |

Saw your msg too late Roger, I just came back from Lujiabang Lu. Ordered 5 shirts at stall 265 for 120 each. It was a quick visit. Anyone else has experience with #265 before? The 2 ladies were quite nice and also responsive to my elaborate wishes. |

Lurker,
Sorry I got the message to you too late.
The prices at No. 329 were about 10% less.
Maybe next time. |

Yes, there is a bottom. What that bottom is depends on what market you shop in. |

silver tiffany's cufflinks are one of my favorites- 35rmb (compared to what some of you guys are getting i'll try harder next time).
Have had some for 18 months now and the silver (presumably a thin coating) still polishes up nicely. |

At Hongmei yesterday:
2 watches - RM300
Spunky lady claims that these PP and Tag Hauer watches should be more expensive because of their tourbillon movements. I think I was ripped off.
2 samsonite trolly bags (medium, cabin sized) - RM350.
Sullen lady claims that better material and better wheels means better prices. I think I was ripped off.
This is a tough town. |

Yeah, they always tell you the Tag (not sure about PP) watches should be more expensive. However, the quality is MUCH worse on the Tag watches I've seen.
The cronograph watches don't reset exactly to 12, and if they do, after a few uses they won't.
The ones that use date instead are less authentic and the hands on the dates fall off after too many clicks. They also don't point directly to the numbers, they are missaligned.
You may also notice on a lot of the tag watches that they in fact say T4G, rather than TAG. Compare your Tag watch logo to a picture of an authentic logo to see if it is the same. A lot of Tag watches also have an inaccurate back cover, too, either with wrong branding, poor logo, or wrong style. |

| Post subject: WASH FIRST!!! |
I would say to definitely take the fabric home and wash it a few times first if there is any cotton in it at all. I have had several things made that look fine, but once you was them a few times, they shrink badly. I've asked the tailors to wash the fabric first, but that doesn't happen (ever).
If they make things that don't fit, throw a hissy, and ask to have it fixed or you want your deposit back. Otherwise, they get the idea that they can make it wrong, and still make money. |
