Oh what an adorable puppy!! I was afraid of getting big dogs when I lived in Shanghai since I always lived in an apt. Not to mention it is a big pain to walk a big dog in the downtown area. I really hope the little thing can find a nice famliy to live with very very soon. Maybe SCAA can also help? |

All my life I have had big dogs, last one was a snobbish Afghan Hound.
I have had a labrador, German pointer, staffordshire bull terrier and a Belgian Shepherd dog. All my dogs have lived to extreme old age.
The last four years I have been dogless and whenever I see dog in my compound I always hope he will come over for a sniff. I cant wait to get my hands into their fur............it's almost an obsession.
That being said, I am really teetering on the edge about getting another dog.
I have my own driver so transport is not a problem - my driver likes dogs.
I am not sure about the ayi - I need to make sure she will not be a quivering wreck with a "wolf dog" in the house.
I am changing jobs at the moment and my new job will allow me a little more time at home - no crazy 4 hrs a day in the car any more.
I will leave home just before 9 and return about 6. My ayi is in the house every day between 12 and 4. And I have a close friend who uses my home office 3/4 days a week.
I also live in a large downtown compound in a 250sqm appartment - the compound has many dog owners here and there are very large grounds for walking a dog.
So theoretically, it's not totally impossible.
The negative sides - the dog is 3 months old - still a very young guy and Huskies are known for terrific destruction if left alone and bored out of their skulls.
They are also extremely sociable animals and need company - any human will do - they are not one man/woman dogs.
Let me think a bit more about it - I am out of town next week but if this poor little guy has not found a more suitable home by then.......... |

@ Bella.
Perhaps to have a better chance of finding this little guy an ideal home you need to wait a couple of weeks - it's school holidays at the moment and lots of families have gone home overseas. |

You can contact SCAA and they can recommend some pet relocation companies. I am not sure about now but when we shipped Tank the bulldog to Doha it cost around 1500 US dollars. As for the States I am not sure....you can call the poster directly and ask her I am sure that if are going to give the dog a good home she would agree. Her number is at the beginning of this thread. Good Luck and please let us know if you end up with the husky.......a sweet ending!!! Here is a pic of a bulldog my husband and I rescued in Shanghai and now he is living in Doha near the beach with a wonderful American family. |

Is that a girl or boy? I am a housewife and we have a 3 years old Labrador already, but my husband likes dog very much and I might take care of them together.
The only problem is we are going to Beijing in August, so the ealiest proper time to take a look at this puppy is middle Aug, will it be OK? |

I have to said that USD1500 is really a fortune for me. And I do believe i can find the right family here in shanghai for the husky, and I will take care of him as long as he lives with me.

Bella,
I think that you are misunderstanding what HCXLCR is asking......he is not asking you to pay for shipping the dog to America. He is asking if anyone knows how much it would cost for himself to ship the dog to America.
Also please keep in mind that if you adopt the dog out to an expat family chances are quite high that eventually they will leave China and take the dog with them. China is much too hot for Huskies and the climate here is wrong for them. This is a dog that was and still is widely used in the Arctic regions. |

I went through all the export procedure myself for my 2 dogs to come to Canada. I think I spent totally 6000RMB on both of them including the 'air tickets', IATA cages and everything else needed.
1500USD is way too much. |

Yes, with AirCanada, you just pay around us$250 per dog. But the dog can have the maximum weight of 32kg with the cage. So, like this one is still a pet, it's the proper time to take it! |

I think you misunderstand. The O.P. said she was helping a friend, who unexpectantly had a serious allergy to dogs.
I for one applaud her for what she is doing.
She could have had it "put down", for about RMB 500, but decided to spend money to try and get a good home.
I cannot help, as we have 2 miniatures, and probably would have ended up breakfast and lunch for the husky!.
Bella: great to see you have some very good possibilities now.

Different countries have different prices for importing/exporting animals. There is also different regulations and red tape to go through. |

Of course. My friends spent big bucks to ship their 2 dogs to the UK when they moved back last year. We take the dogs with us on the air plane as extra luggauges but for countries like the UK, dogs can only be shipped as the cargo which is a totally different case. |

Yes you are right and in the UK there is a 6 month quarantine on top of the flight fees.......very expensive. My other half and I were thinking of moving back to the UK two years ago and taking our dogs. After totalling everything up we figured out that we would have to remortage the house there to do this......LOL!! We ended up staying in Shanghai and it has worked out for the best..... |

Hi Bella,
Don't worry as soon as August comes the foreigners will come back and many new families will arrive. I have already let 4 families know that there is a Husky who needs a good home. I will talk with them more in the next few weeks. I am also looking for a family for a Bull Terrier (she is a sweetie)......it may take a little time but your Husky will find a good home. Hang in there!!!

One more thing and that is that perhaps if you want I can help you get him on the SCAA website. There are alot of families who look on the doggie adoption page that don't use Shanghai Expat so this way you can get double exposure.......we would have to bring him to PAWS for a checkup.....the cost is 100 RMB and then once he is approved we can get him up on the website. I will look after the donation part but you may need to bring him to one or two adoption days at O'Malleys.....in my experience some families tend to prefer pure breds........my Basset Hound only lasted 20 minutes on the website before she was adopted!!! |

I had a Husky in Australia, would love another one but unfortunately don't have the yard that I had in Australia.
Agree with some of the above posts, experience with Huskies is almost a must, they are very demanding dogs. They are extremely strong willed and need a lot of exercise but are also very loving and intelligent.
I hope you find a good home. |
