| Post subject: The Shelter = Den of Idiots |
Thanks Shelter for bringing Shanghai more useless "DJ" posers and knob twiddling by pimply-faced nerds who would otherwise be manning the deep-fyer at an Appleby's in greater Cleveland.
And thanks awfully for bringing the art of "tagging" to our neighborhood. China is so much richer now that we can all walk down the street and admire the inane scribblings and various penis-related shapes drawn by your talentless waiguo ren customers.
Before you prοtest... Yes, it's you. This new form of "expression", previously unknown in our neighborhood, begins in great abundance at your doorstep and decreases in size and frequency as one moves outwards in concentric circles from your area of influence. Also - they are exclusively in English.
Special mention goes out to the individual who vomited a huge, undecipherable scrawl over the community blackboard on Wuyuan Lu. The board that announces the weather, school events and activities for old folks. Seriously? Why didn't you just spread a Chinese flag on the ground and take a dump on it? Do you also hate rabbits and sunshine?
Now Shelter owners, I know it's not necessarily your fault. People are morons and their behavior animalistic at times. But wouldn't it be a good idea to get out there with a srub brush and some paint thinner and maybe clean up after your customers a bit? Especially now, at this - ahem - sensitive time? Rember Tang Hui? Blue Ice? etc...etc... It doesn't take much for the locals to revolt and get you shut down for violating their peace and quiet at the best of times.
Douche-bag Shelter customers - I'm talking to you now -
Sooner or later I'm going to run into you during your little diversion. I am not a particularly violent or imposing person. But I promise you that I am going to bury that tube of krylon so far up your *** that you're going to be setting off airport metal detectors for the rest of your lives. |

There has to be somewhere for the poor white folk to hang out and pretend to be cool. |

Armie...get laid much?
1. I'm an occasional customer.
2. Haven't been called a douche-bag in eons.
3. Don't necessarily like the "penis shaped" street art of which you speak.
4. Do believe that the CHINESE artist who made them had permission from the owner.
5. Do have a hunch that the awgul tags were also done by Chinese.
6. Do know the difference between tagging and street art.
7. Do know that this "new" form of expression has been around for a loooong time.
8. Do believe that labelling and stereotyping people is a form of ignorance.
9. Do assume that some of those DJ's that you disdain are wealthier then you.
10. Would like to be around to witness your krylon enema. |

Ever notice that "douche bag" just doesn't carry the weight it used to ? Even children are using it. It had a killer application a few years ago but now can be used in general degrading discussions |

The problem is she thinks "grammEr" is the correct spelling, same as she thought before "laowi" is the correct spelling... |

Look..
I am not for one second condoning what has annoyed you so much..
But in fairness to the owners of the Shelter they have tried very hard to keep the noise down of customers leaving the place.
They hold a night once a month where ALL proceeds go to charity..
They have tried to raise the level of exposure to forms of music that are not purely commercial..
They don't charge astronomical prices for drinks..
And beggers and drunks pisss and shiat, pollute outside places all over the town..
I suggest you wait to catch an offender rather than blame someone who probably isn't aware of what has got to you so much..
Good luck with that |

Exhibit A - the typical Shelter-goer Unable to see the irony of calling me uptight but then writing out a list of 10 points like a grade-school exercise.
I can't be arsed replying to all your points, especially since most of them are nonsensical and apparently included to bring the list up to your magic number 10.
As to point 5, I don't give a sh*te. Chinese or not, it's just knuckle-dragging behavior. There's plenty of people moaning on this site about the deterioration in the quality of expats washing up in Shanghai. I've always thought of this complaint as just old-timer cynicism. But if this is what's passing for "culture" amongst laowai then I'm inclined to agree with them. |

Sorry gramps. Street art is culture. Worldwide. Do a wikipedia on Banksy. Political and social commentary brought to the masses in a beautiful, colorful, and often humorous fashion.
PS: Seems like your point might have hit someone somewhere, as the wall has been painted over. Sadly, not the community board as well. |
