So the medical check-up is not done at the test centres but in a hospital?

Driving directions to QingChun Road?

In my opinion, it's much easier by subway since it's a small walking distance.

Just doing my Motorbike licence (I already have a car licence, and apparently I need a motorbike licence to drive my soon to be repurchased LPG* / or the gas bike I bought yesterday with real licence but not quite legal inside the ringroad.)

Was told on the phone just to bring Passport and Drivers Licence, had the staff call 2 times to make sure thats all, as its in Xin Zhuang, and thats about 1hr from the office.

Get there, and of course, they need... something else - proof of address too.

Pleaded in Shanghainese, and they took pity, and used the Drivers Licence address.

So... bring your Red Resident Permit Book with you too. (from your employer).

Medical Checkup is done on the 3rd floor of the Dong Ming lu / Minhang place at the beginning of this thread.

1st floor, application - 60RMB
2nd floor - photo's and fill in the forms. (photo's included in the price)
3rd floor - get the medical (takes about 2 minutes for all the windows, the ladies are very nice and helpful).
Then off to the next place for the next forms.

I did the medical today, tomorrow I go back to somewhere closeby for some kind of chop, then I can go study how to drive a moped.

Apparently 3 lessons, and a assume you'll pass for rmb2500.

Car application is at same place, although last time I did mine somewhere near the border of Lu Pu Da Qiao in Puxi side.

As is typical with China, the offices are in the middle of nowhere, and asking for information nets different answers.

I'm one of the few people who likes to try to do this stuff as legally as possible, which can be hard in China with all the hoops to jump through, and regulations that change depending on whom you speak with.

*LPG was bought new, with licence in 2005. Stolen in 2005 also.
Unfortunately you can't just buy another one, you have to wait 1 whole year before you can use the licence again. Unfortunately the paperwork got lost, so had to re-report it stolen with the police, and wait another year.
Finally get to the end of the 2nd year, and go to get my licence, but they tell me I have to go to another place in boondocks, drive all the way out there, and they tell me, as my district is Putuo, but the bike was stolen in Puxi, I need to go... about 5 minutes from my apt. This after calling a few times to confirm, and make sure I have to go there.
Go there, hand in the paperwork, and they are like, ok, now wait a year.
Negotiating on that right now.

Gotta love China sometimes...

At least its better than when I did my car registration renewal this year - that took 3 days of driving around, and I still didn't get to change the address to the correct one.

/end rant.

I got my Chinese driver's license here in SH a couple of years ago, and after passing the "medical" exam and the MC computer test, I waited for 20 minutes and took the card home the same day.

hi there, I just moved to this town called Jiashan just outside shanghai. and no one i know locally can tell me exactly how i can get my driver's license. is there anyone that can help me with me?

1. Can i apply for the driver's license in Shanghai if my residence is in Jiashan?

2. I am working here with my Canadian nationality, but i also have the taiwanese ID and got my taiwanese driver's license from my canadian license. I heard it's much easier to get the chinese driver's license with the taiwanese license. Is that true? if so, does anyone know if i will need to get another residence permit with my taiwanese ID to apply for the chinese driver's license?

thanks in advance.

If you already have an existing licence, its relatively easy. You won't need to get another residence permit if its from a different country than the one you use to come here on.

You need to get it officially translated (which shouldn't be a requirement for Taiwanese licences, but this is China, so you never know), then take + pass a rather ridiculous 100 question multiple choice. Most of it is common sense, except for a few strange and incorrect question/answer pairs. Eg, on a flashing yellow light, they want you to drive through for the correct answer, rather than stop.

I have a scan of the test questions if anyone wants.

@crying_freeman - they need proof of address.
This is in your resident book that you will get with your employment stuff.
The red resident book with your address in it written in Chinese.

Back to the moped licence stuff: - The Saga continues.

Despite their best efforts ( the Xin Zhuang place neglected to give me a piece of paper with the health check that I was supposed to get, so I had to go do another one ), I managed to get the paperwork finally completed for the motorbike licence stuff.

I give all the paperwork, drivers licence, and passport to the application place, and three days later they come back with sorry, but your passport is different from when you registered the first time around in 2004, so you need to do it all again. Sigh.

Now I know the ropes, I managed to get all the paperwork redone in 2 days, get a test booking for the multiple choice, and pass within about 5 minutes of entering the exam. 99/100, the one I got wrong is the one they got wrong Wink
All the paperwork is going back to the application place again today, and I'll get some lessons booked next week I think.

Actual cost for the motorbike / moped licence is RMB750.

Hopefully I won't have to do too many lessons, in the same way I didn't do that many lessons for my drivers licence...

I heard the resident permit is not necessary anymore. Only the temporary one is fine. is that true?

Hi all,
I have my European Driver lisence, my alien employment permit and my temporary registration form. Can I easily get my Chinese driver lisence for a car?
Living in Songjiang, but don't find out where to go to apply for it.
I don't speak yet enough chinese, but really want to drive our car.
Can somebody help me with it?
Hi computersolution, can you sent me the scan of the questions please?
Is it each time the same questions? (would be typical for this nice country)

thanks everybody in advance,
Erik
