| Post subject: Baking powder -where? |
I stared myself blind at the shelves at City Shop? Did I really miss it, or do they actually sell baking powder? If not, where can I find it??? |

they used to keep it in the cleaning aisle/section at city, rather than the baking aisle. right next to the baking soda. think they must confuse the two. |

if it is a distance from you, call for a catalog (they will send via email) and arrange for delivery. there is a minimum, so one package of baking soda won't suffice, but a few will! |

I have also seen it available at Metro in their baking area with the yeast, flour, baking chocolate, etc. |

A naive question : is baking powder same as baking soda? I am running out of baking powder brought from home but only see baking soda in supermarket. Thanks in advance! |

If you can't find baking powder you can substitute one part baking soda and two parts cream of tartar. But you are probably more likely to find baking powder than cream of tartar! |

We can easily find here baking soda, baking powder, yeast, and Carrefour and Pines now have cream of Tartar!
What we cannot find here is amoniac salt, that I use for cookies.
I brought some packs from Brazil, and when my husband saw it in my kitchen, he went crazy!
I didn't know people use amoniac salt in the production of cocaine...
You can imagine in the airport customs, if we would have been caught,I trying to explain that it was for baking cookies, nor
cocaine |

I noticed that the last comment was posted in 2007. I have been looking for baking powder and tried City Shop, Metro and Carrefour without luck. Is it disguised in French or German, or is it not easy to find anymore? |

Yep Plat is right. City shop next to Portman. Saw it there a few days ago. The brand is "Clabber Girl", made in U.S.A. , but not too expensive. I think about RMB 30 for 284 grams. |

Thanks for the replies. Had a look at Hong Mei City shop last week, and couldn't find any, unless I was looking in the wrong place? Anyone seen it elsewhere in the Puxi area? |

Hong Mei City shop, 2nd floor, move from the place where they have the baking stuff like icing sugar, coconut flakes to the shelves where there are the betty crocker mixes, and other stuff like the hersheys syrup, imported flour...
the baking powder and baking soda are on the bottom shelf. You can ask the staff - they have one or two who can speak english - they should be able to help you. |

Yes, and as I said in the previous post in 2007 .. it is still available in the Living Shop, Huangjin Cheng Dao, Gubei.. 1st floor, below the veg.life style restaurant. Its located opposite to the Lohao organics store in Gubei. I think is less expensive than city shop. |

Hi Lotta, just wanted to say thanks for the info. I still couldn't find any bp at City Shop, but found it at Living Shop, and surprisingly not expensive. Also found different kinds of rice, which is MUCH cheaper than City Shop. |
