Post subject: Boutique Shanghai????

Am coming to Shanghai... does anybody know of any nice small hotels (or B&B style) in Shanghai with a touch of old China in the atmosphere... and a bit of charm; typically known as 'boutique' hotels in western countries, and usually priced at a lower rate than international style modern high rise hotels.

Alternatively, can somebody recommend a 'good value' hotel in the 200-300 RMB per night price range????

Also, any nice old style jazz clubs (with live jazz??)... I am trying to capture some of the romance from 'the old days'... and I greatly appreciate your tips; thank you very much!

Tell me which part of Shanghai you prefer to live in, then I can help you find one.

I am no agent. Just want to help.

Jazz - try Peace Hotel ... they have a jazz band that plays and an ambience from the days of yesteryear.

Cotton Club - maybe not an old-style club (although from the inside, it does feel kind of old). Tuesday nights used to be amateur nights which were kind of fun.

There is a hotel Shanxi Road, a few blocks in from Nanjing Road that will give you a touch of old China. Renovated old house. Good location. Not cheap though. I can't remember the name of it, but maybe someone else will.

Try www.elong.com - it's a local site with English + photos.

I know there's a guest house on Fuzhou Road near the bund, forgot its name and I have no idea about its prices, I'll check it out for you next week if you can wait.
