Post subject: yes, we are here ..arrived in July...

things are going well. we are still in marriott exec apts till this sunday. We are moving to green villas then. So far I have been happy with the house and the mgmt office there. I dont recall as much about rents, but yes it is probably tough to get a house in jinqiao for 5k, I think. Green Court is a nice apartment complex, and they have some large apts that we liked quite well. willowbrook is pretty pricey, but you might find one of the older ones on the green hills side? not sure? we mostly looked at homes, so dont have a lot of apt recommendations. School starts Monday and the kids attended Multisport camp at Dulwich this past few wks - really liked it a lot. let me know if you have other questions? I will try and answer. demand is for sure greater than supply here! - oh one place we didnt look that is right across the street from concordia is beverly hills? no idea on cost or how they are, but its certainly close if it fits your needs!

We already have a real estate agent that is through my husband's company (Joanna Real Estate), so I don't think I can avoid going through a big real estate company. If I am armed ahead of time with information on some compounds that may be a bit less well known, I think they would feel obligated to show them to us if we asked.
I think we may add Shimao Lakeside to our list, if we can see a place with a garden for the dog. 15 minutes walk is about what we used to have to primary school, so now that my son is older, it should seem short to him.
And I guess we should maybe cross Willowbrook off the list. If we had the budget to afford that, we'd go for Green Villas!
The combination of a dog and a car-sick prone kid is turning out to be a challenge!

I forgot about Beverly Hills! it's very close to Concordia, just cross the street, and I'm quite sure that for 5k you can have a house there...no clubhouse or other facilities, but it's close to everything.
Monkey, my son attended the Qilin soccer camp today and he just love it!

On the information we received from the real estate company, they said Beverly Hills rent was over $11,000 USD!! So that is more than double our allowance! It's trying to be like the other Beverly Hills maybe? They are all 5br houses, so much bigger than we need anyway, but still...$$11,000??
Iara, very glad to hear about your son enjoying Qilin!

Oh my gosh! that is nutty! Though I will say prices are kind of nutty here. We didnt stray too far from the beaten path, so there could well be some less expensive housing avail. I really would look at the penthouse/top floor of green court - not sure on price but quite nice. i also think that Green Hills has townhouses too, but we didnt look at them - might be worth checking? It was just really important for me to be close to school and I didnt want the kids to bus a long way - we have an 8 and 4 yr old and I just wasnt comfortable sending them off. There are a lot of decent apts i would say for the budget you might ask them to send you some of those names for you to research a bit more? I'll keep thinking of other areas and keep my eyes peeled while driving!

Monkey, I looke at Metropolis real estate, and it says that Beverly Hills is around 3k to 5k...And other compounds prices are what they're asking for, so maybe your real estate is asking too much...
Try to google about Shanghai Villas Rent, you'll find a lot of real estates with villas prices.
No way B. Hills is 11k...

Thanks Iara,
I think it was a misprint, because I just received a list of possible properties for us to look at, and Beverly Hills was on it, listed at RMB 30,000-40,000. That sounds more like a real price!
I'm going to ask a question on a new thread, because I think I've been a bit off-topic and have hijacked this thread a bit...

Follow up - the Concorida bus does pick up / drop off at Shimao Lakeside.

Thanks for the update, jack.
We will definitely be looking at Shimao Lakeside...if I ever hear back from the Real Estate agent to confirm!
