so let me get this straight, in that one sweeping statement you essentially said all pet shops employ the same tactics and methods. Thats great. kulturschok, I imagine to make such a statement, you would naturally have to be well researched in this field. What might I ask, are your qualifications? Do you have independent unbiased statistics showing this truth? Or perhaps did you feel that as a member of SCAA, or as a foreign animal lover, you have the moral right to make such accusations? In your expert opinion is it only pet shops in China that suffer from this terrible trait or is it pet shops in general?

I respect SCAA and what they do, I do not respect people who use SCAA literature as a justification for their own little agenda's. Jolynne constantly refers to herself as 'we'. It might surprise her to know that not everybody shares her opinion.

After reading your post I have the impression that you visited a Chinese pet shop which keeps the animals species-appropriate.
Would you mind to share name and address of this shop? After all the negative examples it would be nice to have a positive one.

"We" refers to myself and individuals at SCAA who have been dealing with woaihuan for the last while. Also if you think that it is appropriate for a person to purchase a kitten from a market, bring it home then throw it outside without getting it vaccinated, neutered or spayed because he doesn't want to waste his money and his inlaws don't like animals is a responsible individual, well then so be it.
I am not going to fight with you on a forum about what is right and wrong when it comes to the ethical treatment of animals. Everyone has their own opinion about this. For me personally this is cruel. There is no way that you are going to convice me that woaihuan currently is a good pet owner.......not after his comments and emails.

"So let me get this straight, in that one sweeping statement you essentially said all pet shops employ the same tactics and methods.Tactics? Thats great. "

They're all in the business of selling animals. I inferred nothing about 'tactics' in that statement. The point is that they provide distribution and therefore the need for supply, when there are enough animals needing homes already. Any insinuation about the 'methods' here is your own.

"kulturschok, I imagine to make such a statement, you would naturally have to be well researched in this field. What might I ask, are your qualifications?"

Do you have to have qualifications about everything you have an opinion on? I guess I studied Business so I understand supply and demand.

"Do you have independent unbiased statistics showing this truth?"

What is the truth you are talking about? That there are enough animals that need a home already? What about anecdotal evidence? Qualitative over quantitative? Empirical evidence? SCAA are at full capacity and I often see adverts for people trying to rehouse their pets.

"Or perhaps did you feel that as a member of SCAA, or as a foreign animal lover, you have the moral right to make such accusations? "

Yes.

"In your expert opinion is it only pet shops in China that suffer from this terrible trait or is it pet shops in general?"

No, I dont approve of petshops anywhere, but the trade in China is less regulated than it is in the UK, for example. What terrible trait are you thinking of?

"I respect SCAA and what they do, I do not respect people who use SCAA literature as a justification for their own little agenda's."

What is my own little agenda? SCAA itself does not condone buying animals like this. SCAA is supported by RSPCA, a society I respect.

"Jolynne constantly refers to herself as 'we'. It might surprise her to know that not everybody shares her opinion."

Well if she was only referring to me with that 'we' then that would be correct.
