| Post subject: Enquiry on Hongqiao & Minghang Expat Compounds |
Dear All,
Does anyone has any experience living in the following expat compounds :-
(1) Hongqiao Golf Villa - in Hongmei Road
(2) Elite Garden - in Hongmei Road
(3) Odin Palace Villa - in Hongmei Road
(4) Nice Year Villa - in Hongmei Road
(5) China Garden - Hongqiao area
(6) Hong Qiao Garden - Hongqiao area
(7) Xijiao Baocheng Garden - Hongqiao area
(8 Westwood Green - Minghang area
(9) Sentosa - in Minghang area
How are the townhouse / villas in these area ? How is the security, management service and clubhouse facilities there ? Pleaes advise the pros and cons of living in these compounds. Do they have free shuttle service and are they convenient to go to shopping centres, wet market etc ?
Any other comments will be also greatly appreciated.
Thank you and best regads, |

I prefer Rancho Santa Fe in Jin Feng international community of Min Hang District. It is just next to several international schools, SAS, BISS, Singapore International School and that of Korean and Taiwanese. Convenient to kids. Management in Rancho is very good with English speaking staff. It has its own club house too. This is a mature compound with a lot of expatriate families. You may easily make friend here. It is also next to the Shanghai Racquet Club. Only drawback is a bit away from city centre, hence for night life. There do have a few nice restaurants. |

Management is all fine at most of these places. Security in Shanghai is typically good especially at compounds where expatriates live. Most of these don’t have a shuttle bus as they are more local styled compounds. But shops and supermarkets are very close so no need to worry.
Hongqiao Golf Villa - newish compound with 3 storey villas/townhouses. Despite being next to a golf course there’s little green area/yard. Some villas are decked out well but it is a hit and miss. Very convenient.
Elite - one of Hong Qiao’s oldest compounds so make sure you see renovated villas/townhouses. Very convenient.
Odin Palace Villa – Quite nice townhouses in attractive surrounds. Very convenient.
Nice Year - Same era as Elite so make sure you see renovated ones. Very convenient.
China Garden – Some rather nice townhouses but it’s a hit or miss. Very convenient.
Xijiao Baocheng Garden – Very local compound. Not so convenient.
Westwood Green – New townhouses - decors have bright and modern styles. Quite convenient.

hi, i will move in shanghai in January and today i visited the Stratford townhouse and Westwood Green. I like the place and the big rooms they have. i am a bit concern about the "surraundig" areas. It looks quite bad out there......can somebody give me some information? i will really appriciate it.
Thank you,
Andrea |

Quite bad? Please clarify what it was that you think was bad. Unless you mean the type of dwellings that several million people in Shanghai still call home sweet home. Don't worry! The government is working diligently on kicking them out, tearing down their homes, and replacing thier communities with gated and gaurded compounds for the wealthy to enjoy without having to deal with the discomfort of seeing how lesser peoples live.

China Garden is ok, even the guards stops you when visiting with real estate guys. Although you definitely need a car or a bicycle to go shopping in Carrefour or eat in Hongmei lu. |
