Post subject: spray deodorant in HK?

I am coming to the end of my final can of Arrid Extra Dry, but I have a trip to HK planned. Do they sell deodorant in HK, or is it the same as mainland China? I am going to HK in a few weeks, wonder if I can buy some there or if I need to get it sent to me from the USA.

Yeah they do sell deodorant. Mostly Gatsby, Rexona, Adidas, Axe. Most Mannings, Watsons or ParknShop will have them. Cosmetic places like SaSa will also have them. But they might not have the brand Arrid.

Anyways i do find Deo in Shanghai easily. Just might not have specific ones. Like i can't find unscented deordorant but i can find a whole shelf of AXE, which this brand does not have any unscented ones.

What you list is not deodorant, it is cologne I think. I am looking for stuff that makes you stay dry and not sweat.

You might want to change the heading then because not all deodorants stop you from sweating, only antiperspirants do that. Some simply kill the bacteria that causes odour.

They're available in Shanghai but you will definitely find a greater range in HK just because it caters better to westerners and prices may also be cheaper.

HK is better for this kind of stuff generally.

Don't know about Park n Shop - Those supermarkets always seemed like something from Bosnia than HK.

Watsons exists in Hong Kong and will definitely have what you need, unlike Watsons in Shanghai.

There's also Body Shop and Marks & Spencers which might provide.

Axe is shite and is a deo, not anti-perspirant. So is Rexona though they do have some anti-perspirants. Nivea is ok but too girly (that fruity, flowery smell...... yuck). And these three are the only ones available widely/easily here.
I did see a couple of Harley's at the Super Brand Mall a few months back and emptied the shelf myself. Nothing decent since.
chingiskhan, i am not sure but expect these stuff to be costlier in HK, not cheaper. However, given the luxury of actually having a choice, i would happily pay the extra buck or two. And yes, andyfff, you will find some decent ones in HK.

I find Adidas (roll-on) for Men & Women to be quite effective as well as Rexona roll-on. No staining and no overpowering perfume. If I can get it in Suzhou, then I'm quite sure it's available in SH.

Tend to avoid spray-ons, huge coughing mist. Less environmental impact with a roller ?

It's strange, 5 years ago I had to literally scour the city for deodorant, but now I can get a range in the local Chinese "Beatrice" chain store about 300 metres from my door.

Has China gone from furry ladies armpits to shaven deodorant devotees in just 5 years ? Perhaps it the TV advertising.... Chinese shopkeepers absolutely do not stock stuff that doesn't sell, and that's a fact.

Mrs (Chinese) Zak101 now refuses to leave home without a quick swipe or two as part of her toilette routine.

Cheers !

Good for you but the sticky feeling roll-ons leave just doesn't cut it for me. As to they being more environment friendly, get your facts right.

I might be wrong but all the stuff in Shanghai is imported and sold through high priced expat supermarkets. In HK there are some that are distributed there and therefore not subject to the higher prices and also the RMB is now 14% higher in value than the HKD.

In any case, the selection will be bigger and the absolute prices are still small so it probably won't worry Andy.

@stlill_here.

I gently provide generic advice to other expats in Shanghai and surrounds who seek trustable advice from others- based on my personal experience with nothing to gain - and you choose to attack me.

"Get your facts right ?"

Now I arc up. I'm really pissed off.

"being more environment friendly"

Right mate. Compare the environmental impact of spray-on deodorant versus roll-on deodorant recycling.

Logically discuss the environmental impact load of disposal of spray canisters versus plastic single use recyclable roll canisters.

And get it right : cite studies.

Yu888, please delete all of this please. I'm angry for no point apart from being baited.

Zak

True

The import duty will factor in the exchange rates which will effectively negate this factor. But i will be the first person to admit being illiterate when it comes to finances, especially the ones related to forex, so can't say.

A spray-on simply uses an aerosol dispersive agent to fluidize whereas a roll-on uses adhesive/coagulants, the active content remaining the same. I am well within my domain and know what i am talking about. As to disposal of canisters, both are made of non-bio-degradable materials which will take an infinite length of time to decompose naturally. A spray on is pressure positive container which makes it dangerous to HANDLE is all.

Why should i? Get off ur lazy ass and do ur own research or better still go back to posting ur generic, helpful responses. I am not here to educate some dumb a$$ who takes offence at nothing.

Why is it that every thread ends up in name calling and insults? To quote Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"

Beats me. The above is a case of "Lost in Translation". I am pretty sure Zak misunderstood my "get ur facts right" statement and took it as an insult. It wasn't meant to be. Had he simply responded with a query as to the basis of what i said, he would have recieved a helpful reply with loads of info. Instead he got all fired up "i arc (?) up. i am pissed". What was i supposed to do. I am not a contender for the Nobel Peace Prize!

I didn't mean you specifically, but most other threads also become insult competitions and flame wars. <sigh> I guess that is the nature of the internet beast.
