Post subject: Document verification needed by Consulate for Z-Visa

While applying for the z-visa in Mumbai, the lady at the consulate takes one look at the documents I have ( I had everything necessary) and says that she doubts the authenticity of one the docs i had sent.

The document in question is the visa notification letter, issued by the Shanghai Pudong New Area People's Government. And at its head, it says: Please apply forthwith for visa at the Chinese Embassy/ Consulate/Visa office in INDIA with this form. And in this form, has both the Bureau’s chop and their supervisor’s signature. ( So I am informed by the relo consultant who is processing the docs for me. And i work for a Fortune 20 company, i have NO doubts that they've invested a lot in the area)

The visa officer tells me that she needs to call up the concerned official and verify the authenticity of the document, and that she will let me know in 7 days. This happened on the 25th of August and I am still waiting

My question is:
* Is this normal? Is it because of the Olympics etc?
* Has anyone else experienced this sort of a delay and how was it resolved?
* Is it possible to expedite this by having my relo consultant do something from Shanghai ? ( Not sure what/how?)

I'm in a bit of a fix as I was supposed to report to work on the 1st of September and I am still here in India.

thanks in advance for your help!!!

The consulates have likely been under a lot of pressure from the powers that be in China to adhere to rules strictly, especially in countries they feel are developing countries. Unfortunately, the combination of the recent Olympics/Parlympics and a host of other new immigration policy enforcement tightening, you may be in for a wait and your only source of information may be from the consulate, so it is best to stay on good terms with the officer or agent in charge of your file. Good luck.

He is applying in Mumbai so I would assume he is in India as he indicated his invitation dictated getting his visa in India

Definitely send this all to your relo consultant to follow up on and handle. That's what your company pays them to do! Also, see if they have a rep office in Mumbai so some one of their staff can stand in line all day rather than yourself. The relo staff should be totally familiar with current protocols and are often able to handle things more efficiently and quickly.

As Yu888 rightly pointed out, the Olympics and tightening of rules has made a huge difference to many poor souls in your circumstance.

GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks everyone for the responses!!

Now because of the delays, I face spending 182+days in India this tax year and that means I get taxed on my China income in India AND China for the 2008-2009 financial year!!!

Yikes!

Keeping my fingers crossed.
