Its been a while.. Made the long trek from JinQiao to Bhoomi's on a rainy weekend and was disappointed with the collection. Sad Coming from bayarea where the Indian markets are as big as the regular grocery stores, wasn't prepared for the small shop. I was joking with my wife that she has more spices in her kitchen than at the shop Smile Loaded up on the Maggies to compensate for long taxi ride instead of coming home empty. Starting to see a lot more desi folks in around JinQiao/Zhangjiang which is great.

My company has just informed me that the issuing of Z VISA could be almost impossible till the end of Olympics if you are an Indian or an Indonesian.

And they also say the chances of getting a work permit while on a F visa is also extremely bad for an Indian, thanks to the Olympics.

Infact getting a business visa itself is now a very difficltu for Indians!! (Again courtsey of the Olympics)

Have you guys heard anything about this?

For your information my case is a transfer for me from our office in Bangkok to Shanghai and now this could mnean a delay of 3-4 months to wait for the olympics to be over.

Hi Sabu! My husband managed to get a Z visa for himself and me through his company however, we have only got a single entry. He left yesterday and must be at work today. I should be coming in by the end of the month. So, no trouble with the visa. Only problem is no multiple visas right now.

Hello, kbnabn, sabu, surfheer..
This thread is on hibernate mode, mainly because in summer most of the Indians like to go back to India... to stock up on groceries, mainly because kids have holidays from June end to August end. It could also be that, the thread being moved to the "community discussions forum", it will not appear on the main page.. it will be seen only when you click on more posts.
Kbnabn, have read throught the thread ? if you have you will notice that we posted about hindi movies.. bhoomi stores stocks hindi dvds. some times other chinese shops also do.
I logged on mainly because I wanted to share the blog I created for Indians coming to shanghai , to answer what questions they might have.
Let me know if you have any suggestions to add to the blog - one cannot think of everything, and I will keep adding information,as and when I have time and remember something.

Post subject: British Indian Girl Just moved to Shanghai!!

I there I was wondering if anyone could help. I've just moved to Shanghai and I'm feeling very home sick as I cant find anywhere to buy desi food like atta and masala's, ghee. Also I feel like the only indian here in between millions of chinese. Its not very mixed here like Britain.

Is there a desi community here?

Post subject: Diwali at Punjabi the restaurant!!!

I just want to say I had so much fun at the 'Punjabi' restaurant yesterday for Diwali. Very nice atmosphere and I was surprised to see how many people showed up for it. If there are any other occasions happening that anyone knows about do let me know. Smile
