My wife and I both go to Benson. We actually have our hair cut by Benson himself, and are quite satisfied. Previously, we went to one of the well-known international chains in Shanghai. Our stylist there was very good, but the local partner implemented some pretty customer unfriendly policies. We eventually got fed up & are now happy to pay a good deal less at Benson. Caveat - I can't speak to the quality of his other stylists. |

Benson is a complete tool (not him personally because I don't know him personally) but his constant spamming of the site in the hopes of free advertising is appalling.
Wish I could link you to all his shennanigans, but the salon registers a new handle every other day...
Since you and your wife are satisfied customers, perhaps you can tell Benson that his constant barrage of crap isn't welcomed or appreciated on this site. To be honest, I am rather bored of my sig... but won't dare change until Benson's ceases treating expats like idiots.

I got the best haircut of my life in Shanghai and also the worst - by the same stylist. I was trained at Vidal Sassoon in London, so I find that probably more distressing than others might.
Important to remember about Asian hairstylists is, though they have a very exact and well executed technique, foreigners who have a prominent occipital bone still get one "cut in" for them. And that is so ugly it hurts. Also haircuts will have to be way too short - non-Asian hair has such an elastic quality there is no good line from holding it taut and cutting like that. Oh and the natural growth lines will be ignored and the texture will be too. Might color it purple. But if you like that China girl look and have a smoking ceramic flat iron, your haircut could work really well. Add platform hooker heels maybe, that's always fun.
So, great hairstylists, not too interested in learning new tricks for foreign hair. But I don't have a solution. Obviously. Nice thing about Shanghai, there are some painful haircuts out there. Kind of takes the pressure off. |
