Post subject: Looking for quality mattress

I'm in a need for a kingsize mattress (180*200), and I don't want one of those chinese hard-sleepers...

Any advise for the stores around would be appreciated.

I thoroughly researched this when I first came here (other people correct me if I am wrong), and one of the only mattresses I found that was comparable to western quality / softness was manufactured by a company called: King Koil (both with 'K's).

There is a large furniture store in Puxi that used to be painted blue and yellow (looked almost identical to Ikea) about 4 to 6 blocks away from the Shanghai Railway Station (the station is North and West of the store). The new store color I believe is white with gold accents - it has 5 or 6 floors of furniture (only the first 3 or 4 are worth looking at, as the upper floors are all gawdy Victorian style with gold plated bed posts and weird stuff).

I can't remember the name, sorry. On one of the floors in the back left side of the store is an entire area dedicated to bedding - the King Koil shop is on the North West corner of the building. I bought three of the Heritage Edition mattresses from there - they have been really great - but they are not cheap.

OK...it must be the one in Aumen Lu (Macao Rd.). Thanks Desert, we'll get there and find the King Koil.

Found their website and another outlet closer to us in Hongqiao. There is Wellhome furniture complex next to Shanghai Mart. Found them on the basment . Ended up buying Dunlopillo, though King Koil was the next runner up. Prices for the more comfortable ones were 10 k and up.

Our family has bought numerous mattress/ box sets from this place (I think like a dozen or so for our apartments here in SH) . they have a variety of beds and the factory showroom is here in Shanghai so you can go in and try it out. We got just a little off the list price but its WELL worth the taxi ride out. Smile

Will the salespersons speak English at Dreamland? For a first-pass English filter I tried calling Dreamland but nobody answered the phone.

Is English spoken at Yue Xing Xia Ju? Thanks.

Got my mattress yesterday at the JiSheng Wellborn Furniture emporium in Hongqiao. I inspected mattresses in 6 of the roughly 12 shops on the lower level. I was quoted prices ranging from RMB3-8k for a medium-firm US queen sized mattress so it was good to shop around. The salespersons in each shop spoke sufficient English. I ended up buying a Slumberland but to each his/her own. There are a few JiSheng Wellborns around Shanghai. Below is a potentially useful link.
