Post subject: mattress Toppers

These mattresses are SO...hard here, anyone know of a place where you can buy mattress toppers, 1-3 inches thick to put on top of the mattress you can buy them in the states.

Thanks
Denise

Yes, Carrefour and Ikea.

Ikea ones are much better.

Yes, Ikea. They also sell mattresses to your desired softness.

Try a hard mattress for a while, it's good for you back and sleep.

I've done the hard mattress for almost 4 weeks now, but this thread has piqued my interest. What are the price ranges for the toppers at IKEA? How much is the nicest one?

http://www.ikea.com/cn/en/catalog/categories/departments/bedroom/10634 /

It looks like an extemely cheap one is 149 rmb and goes up to 1500 rmb or so.

Definitely worth it if you don't care for the hard mattresses!

www.ikea.com
They have prices on their site (look for the China site, it's in English)

A Chinese friend recommended a brand called "Song Tian" (松田) as a comfortable and inexpensive mattress pad. Supposedly findable at most supermarkets.

I myself have been sleeping on a plank of wood for a couple weeks now and would not be opposed to upgrading to something softer Wink. I don't know why the Chinese say it's good for your back - my lower back starts killing me the moment I lay down (though maybe that's just a sign of how bad my lower back is lol).
Plus, I usually sleep on my side, and the only thing a hard mattress provides for a side-sleeper is sores and bruises.

Thanks for the info and the colorful commentary. I'll have to go see what IKEA has. Any ideas on how to get there? (just kidding... I can probably figure that out)

wefrucar, being a side sleeper myself, i found that getting one of those "memory foam" contoured pillows to rest my head quite good. I injured my back in an accident a while ago and often have a sore back. I discovered a great way to support my back while sleeping on my side - a pregnancy pillow! (actually meant for pregnant moms) its a wedge shape pillow made from the same memory foam material - i just tuck/wedge under myself when lying on my side- makes a difference!

Ikea should sell proper stuff- their purchasing agents are very clued up on foam quality. I know they check their suppliers foam plants very regularly here.

You can get tempur products in YFY furniture stores or the mall at Jin'an temple (7th floor).

Personally I would stay away from any chinese brands (even if they are cheap). I have been to 20+ foam plants around shanghai and most of them were adding chalk to the mix to add density to the final product for memory foam which means you'll end up with body impressions and collapsed foam over time.

The 'mattress' in my apartment, besides being rock hard, also seems to be oddly sized. What size is 145x185? where can I get foam padding, maybe a couple of inches thick custom made?

And what material do I use?

Try the facbric market as they have a quite good selection of fabric and bedding's material. Only thing it will take one week to be done as always so count on that as well and prepare you back for more.
