Presumably you are staying at a hotel? Contact the hotel and have them arrange a taxi. If you have luggage getting around is a pain in the arse and by the time you have paid for a taxi/shuttle bus into Shanghai, buggered around at Shanghai Station and then again when you get to Suzhou it will be quicker.. |

You may be better off taking a taxi from the PuDong airport to the train station. Then go to the train station and buy a ticket to Suzhou. The trains station has become much easier to get tickets for in recent years.
Just say "Soo Joe".
Then from Suzhou take a train back to Shanghai and a taxi back to the airport. |

After catching the Maglev train from Pudong airport to Shanghai, you should be able to catch a train from Shanghai to Suzhou.
If you decide on taxi from airport to shanghai it should cost you around 150 rmb..try not to be ripped off.
Why not ask your hotel concierge or reception for more information
trains between Shanghai and Suzhou are very frequent throughout the day and night.
the 'T' trains are deluxe and soft seats, airconditioned and comfortable, and also the fastest making the 86km in between 38 minutes to 50 minutes depending on whether there is a stop in Kunshan - the fare for 'T' trains is RMB 22.
the 'K' trains, also air conditioned and take close to 60 minutes for a fare of RMB 15. And lastly, the 'number only trains' (usually a 4 digit number e.g. 2306) are slow (75 minutes) and cheap (RMB 9) and usually run between midnight and 6am. To get a ticket, you can go the the Shanghai Train Station where they have an 'English Speaking' window in the ticket office.
if your plan requires a more definite time, and if you want to know the time in advance, get your hotel consierge to order the ticket which will add a RMB50 service fee to the cost (but it is very convenient).
If your hotel does not have a concierge, the reception staff may still be able to help you... or at least tell you where the nearest ticket office is in the city.
Most travel agents sell train tickets. The train service is good throughout China - they also have super deluxe express ('Z') trains between a selection of major cities.
Check the links
It would help if you had a chinese speaking friend ring and enquire on latest prices and times..

One more thing - why not email the Suzhou expo center and ask for information and possibly a map/printed chinese directions..

If you want to take the shuttle bus, they leave every hour from Pudong airport to Suzhou.
The expo centre is in SIP which is a HUGE industrial area/city on the east side of Suzhou.
The shuttle bus does actually drop off within easy distance of the Expo centre.
If you go by taxi from Suzhou station to the Expo Centre it will cost arround 38 RMB.
What ever you do, get the directions in Chinese for the Expo Centre, virtually no taxi drivers speak English, you will need Chinese directions.
Pudong via Mag Lev and metro (or taxi) to Shangahi railway station then to Suzhou and on to the Expo Centre will take you at least 5 hours.
Some of the better Suzhou Hotels do pick up Pudong Airport. |

Unless you are strapped for cash or want to stay in Shanghai, I'd recommend a taxi straight from Pudong airport to Suzhou. Anything else is just hassle. Can't be more than 4 or 500rmb from the airport (about 40 quid). |

Line 1 Shanghai Railway Station (from MagLev, take Line 2 to People's Square). I'm not quite certain which exit is closest to the ticketing booth, exit 1 perhaps.
I don't think this way is very convenient if you have luggage and on a limited time. |

Line 2 from the Mag lev Station to Peoples Square, (7 stops) change at Peoples Square to Line 1 and get off at Shanghai Railway Station ( 3 stops)
Can't remember the exit number but most exit into the square in front of the railway Station.
Then go and que up for rail ticket to Suzhou, ticket office is clearly marked, and has an english speaking counter.
I'd get a First Class "D" train to Suzhou, its about 30RMB, more comfort.
Then go to the waiting room, first class waiting in the Soft Seat Waiting room to the right of the ticket office.
Get on train when its announced, big electronic boards advise your train & platform.
Seats are pre-booked with your ticket, carrage & seat number marked on ticket, board train approx 10 minutes before departure.
Get off at Suzhou and joing the sometimes LONG taxi que opposite the main station exit.
Have Hotel or destination written out in Mandarin for taxi driver.
Thats about it, enjoy your stay in Suzhou |

I live and work in Suzhou. When I need to go to or from Pudong airport, this is the car company my company always uses: Auto Hua Wen.
Mobile phone number with English speaking person: +86 135 062 088 68. (24/7)
email: huawen@e172.com.
One way price I paid last Sunday: CNY 400.
They have been doing very well for a long time, but my last 2 trips I had to call the mobile number as I did not find the driver, having to wait 1/2 an hour after the call. |

Yep, I'd book at the Renaissance, ask them to send a car & driver with your flight arrival details. Get the driver to stand in the "meet and greet" area at Pudong Airport, just outside Customs & Immigration, holding a placard with your name on it and the hotel logo.
It might cost maybe 500 RMB tacked on to your hotel bill, but you'll be spared ALL the hassles of being in an "alien environment".
Better to do it the easy way
PS: Got your visa yet ? End of October eh ? I'd get cracking if you haven't done so.
