| Post subject: Mobile phone gobbling money - help needed ! |
I just bought an HTC Touch Diamond a few days ago - but I think I am going to have to work overtime to "Pay as I go"
Rmb 500 - 00 eaten in the last 4 days !
No overseas calls - about 100 texts and maybe 5 local calls.
I realise it must be something with data connection that is gobbling my money but what ?
I have my email set to send/receive on demand only and I don't use the internet.
Any ideas where to look guys ? |

I had the same problem with my iPhone. I set email to receive only on demand and still had my account balance sucked dry. On the iPhone there is a setting for 'Fetch New Data'. Once I turned that to 'off' it was fine. I know nothing about the HTC Touch Diamond....but maybe it to has a 'Fetch New Data' setting. |

I'm assuming you're on China Mobile? Why don't you get the 100 RMB for 800 Megs data plan? That way, you won't have to watch your usage.
I receive a ton of emails and my email is connected 24/7. I also surf the internet a lot and haven't gone over yet. |

Even better - how do you organize this ? Walk into one of the China mobile outlets ? What do you need to take with you ? Passport, work contract, housing lease ? |

It's either the phone problem or the China telecom's.
You can get detail report( print on paper) from the China telecom's counter.
Then you will know... |

100 RMB for 800 Megs I believe is adequate for many users. I don't think I've EVER been close to 500 megs. It's hard to reach that on a smartphone no matter how much data you use. Unless you tether your phone for internet sharing.
I would recommend going with 100 RMB plan first. If that's not enough, then bump up to the unlimited plan.
Or, if money is no issue, just go with unlimited. |

You most probably have some automatic downloads on your telephone and some may be roaming for that data. Start by going to the weather icon>menu>Settings and uncheck at least the roaming option and possibly the automatic option as well until you find a plan that you can live with. Then go to programs icon >all programs>quick GPS>menu>options and uncheck Auto download when data expires. Just leave the active sync option checked as well as the reminder.
These are the only automatic downloads I believe you will find on all HTC touch diamonds. Others would be specific to software installed on your telephone. Go through each program you have then go to the menu and remove automatic downloads or at least automatic downloads roaming until you establish the communication plan with your telephone provider that you want. |
