Can I buy xbox 360 prepaid cards so that I can play online games? Do they sell these kinds of cards in China? Or can I buy some points from somebody?

Post subject: price of xbox 360 in hong kong

Now cost me around £199 for a 60GB Premium with PES08 and GTA4

Sainsbury's had the Arcade version for £99

That's the way the cookie crumbles...

I did OK - snapping up all the 2nd hand games - still 10 times more expensive than your 10 rmb copies.

my uncle is going to hong kong next week so

you can buy these on taobao or also using paypal on some websites, which is what I ended up doing. I paid like $20 for a 3 month subscription recently. I've seen a few places that sell the prepaid cards locally but they're cheaper online.

So I think I've read the whole 18 pages (and didn't see my question), but I want to do something a bit different. I am going to buy another DVD drive (Benq) and I want one of the xbox places to flash the new drive with my current drive's DVD-Key and iExtreme so that if I ever decide to play my legit games again with Live, I can switch to the original drive and have a "stock" 360. Has anyone done this or can anyone suggest a really good tech-savvy 360 vendor?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

^ You can try BUT you have to make totally sure that the "Tech" (haha yes that's a joke...) knows the desired results you want. I mean if you don't speak Chinese then you need to have someone with you who does and who understand exactly how to translate your desired results.

The other options are to come prepared with the things you need and try to do it yourself.

Thanks Jeff. I talked to a co-worker this morning and he emailed his guy in Songjiang town who said he's got my DVD-drive and knows exactly what I want to do. He said he'd sell me the drive and flash it with the original's key for 300. My co-worker is a hard core 360 guy so I think it will work out ok....I'm still waiting for my shipment from the US (I now realize I should have brought it with me...) but once is gets here in a few weeks I'll post my results for anyone else that still might want to us XB Live too.

I forgot to mention (hopefully this won't get me banned) - I have about 10 used xbox 360s for sale. I can let them go for 1,250 rmb each. If you need just a console with no controller, power supply or hdtv components - then I can let it go for 850. If you give me your broken console and 400 rmb I will give you a working unit. As always, I reflow and x-clamp all my systems.

If you need new controllers or hard drives - let me know also - I can usually let them go for anywhere between 150-200 rmb.

Could someone tell me if this is a stupid idea:

Playing xbox live to practice my chinese.

According to the lady at the beijing videogame store, it's 400 kuai to install another chip in my modded xbox that will allow it to go online and then another 500kuai for an attachment which allows my xobx to connect with my wireless router (that includes 3 months of xbox live gold). so it's a 900 rmb investment.

I just wanted to ask if anyone has ever played xbox live here in china. Is there much chatter during games? I suspect it will be mostly smack talking and/or overly nerdy strategy talk.
I've got about 2 and a half years of chinese so I can hold my own, but I just don't get to use it as much as I'd like to and thus wondering if this could be a feasible channel.
Thanks

Most of us use Xbox Live weekly. However, there is no practicing Chinese on it - because there are zero chinese-side server hosts etc - Xbox live pairs the players with the best mutual host and therefore its always in the states. Not to mention I can't think of one chinese person who uses xbox live. I could be wrong on all of this...

As for your prices - 90-115 rmb for the mod max... and 140-160 rmb for the wireless network adapter...

Where can I get these prices?

there quite different from the ones she was telling me at 1601 beijing st.

I believed her when she said there were lots of chinese users however I'm sure she'd say anything to make a sale. I kind of believed her wireless adapter appeared to be in legit microsoft packaging which had both english and chinese on it. I'll look into further, thanks for the help

If it has both English and Chinese on the package then its fake. No exceptions. Therefore, don't pay her more than 75 RMB for the wireless adapter. Microsoft has never multi-language branded Xbox packages - the knock-offs do it so the chinese gamers know what the products are...

For clarification... when I said 115 for the mod max... I meant the maximum you should pay is 115 for her to install the mod and demand to inspect the chip prior to her installation. More than likely, she is just going to flash the drive and rip you off.

Based on your conversations with her thus far I would recommend you find another shop to do your dealings with - she does not appear to be very honest -- and her prices are way too high. Try Gamer Dragon (Hong Long Game Shop) across from NYC Deli.

I'm off work for the next few days - let me know if you want to meet at Dragon Gamer near NYC Deli and I will walk you through everything and make sure the prices are right.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know the general price and availability of bootleg XBOX 360 games in Hong Kong? I thought they were available, but quite a bit more "underground" in HK, due to increased IP enforcement, with a higher price to match the added risk. Maybe I can add a legit XBOX 360 game price supplement to my Cost of Living differential.... that or start up a one man smuggling ring from Shenzhen Wink

@ Zhoule ,

Your right it's much harder to find .
Last time i checked there are 2 or 3 selling them in the gamestore center in Wan Chai.
Will look up the address next time I'm there.
It's a 3 story mall only for video games ( no , not the computer center next to the subway)

There are 3 rooms, which copied game covers glued to the wall.
This is the entire selection. Can't hardly miss it , but don't bother asking around the stores, most won't tell you where to find them so keep walking aorund until you see those small rooms

@bezoli - If you're talking about my XBlive question then I am still waiting for my xbox to get cleared in my shipment from the US. I think that I will still have a couple of weeks to wait. But it does work, it's just a matter of finding someone that will flash a new DVD drive with the key from teh original then swappinig drives depending on what your goal is.

I really don't want to get my console banned from live so I am taking every precaution short of buying 2 xboxes (which is the easiest solution).

Thx, I read that somewhere online, do you know a place in SH where they can do this?

I was thinking of buying a 2nd box too, download the content on an external and play the fake games, but the videogame guy says that all DLC is fixed with the machine it has been downloaded upon?
