Is this all you can eat? Is there free flow of beer, red wine, and soda like Bubba's had last year?

You know it is funny, you get such a twisted sense of what anything is worth using Chinese "funny money". I don't even think twice about spending 300 rmb for what would be a very crappy dinner back home in the US. But here in China I am willing to spend almost $50 what would cost me $8 at a local diner back home. But I am sure knowing Malone's, they won't have free flow drinks, they didn't last year, so I went to Bubba's. The only problem I had with Bubba's was they had to do the fast turnover, we weren't nearly ready to finish when they had to do the second setting. So I guess I would go for the 8pm serving this year if I go.

hahahaha If we had priced this at Rmb100 it would still be too expensive for people so i guess we are never going to make readers of Sh Expat happy. Im sure you can find cheaper and i know for sure there are much more $$$ places than Malone`s, but hey, we have had Thanksgiving at Malone`s now for 15 years now, thats longer than any other bar or restaurant in town PLUS its always fully booked every year for 15 years.......Anyway, have a happy thanksgiving no matter where you go

It never fails to surprise me the amount of moaning freeloading tight assed deep pocketed guys that take the time to whine and bitch like a bunch of part time english teachers on this website about the price of food and drinks. I will probably cook myself on thnksgiving anyway but tat menu t is not too exxy for Shanghai.

I just had a fantastic turkey sandwich in a freshly baked Kaiser roll with a couple of slice of tomato, some crisp lettuce, a side of potato wedges and a tiny bowl of turkey gravy for dunking, it was pretty awesome

It was the $120 Turkey that did it. Must be Kobe turkeys that are massaged by naked beautiful Japanese girls everyday while drinking beer.

We get so used to "bend over we'll drive" we don't notice it any more until we fart and there's no sound.

This is after all still China but western food is fashion boutique food because there are more than enough expats with more money than sense. Wink

Thats still cheaper then getting an oven, if you can find one. I'm stuck with my dingy toaster oven, barely large enough to roast a chicken... Too many executive expats here have runied it for the rest of us, just like Marines runed all the red light districts after one night out on the town, priced skyrocketd the next day, go figure...

Are they going to list places this year like last year? I ended up procastinating myself into slim picking last year and want to avoid it this year, if at all possible, well, maybe tomorrow.

smartshanghai will list all the places next week that will be accommodating over the Thanksgiving Holiday. They usually give a good run down of the low-med-hi end places around town to get a decent bird and all the trimmings. There is ONLY ONE American Cafe in town though so its pretty much a no-brainer

Malones caters to people who dont mind getting "ripped off" so dont hate them for that. It would be stupid to charge less as the place is always packed.

personally, i dont see it as good value for money so I rarely frequent the place. Regarding thanksgiving, I prefer to make my own spread and have a house party and can do it for a fraction of the price.

btw, here is an idea that worked well for me last year. if you dont have an oven or its not big enough, you can pay a chinese restaurant you trust to cook the bird for you. I actually had them deep fry it as i figured they would understand that better....it was surprisingly delicious and only 100 rmb 加工费.

Don't piss Malones off too much or the mixer will be getting the leftovers for the next month.

Same song every year.... I don't know where the people who complain about 300 rmb for Thanksgiving dinner come from but you have never eaten out even in your home town. $43 for a complete dinner package is too expensive?

Well then be prepared to be sorely disappointed when you discover Malones is one of the LOWEST priced venues in Shanghai offering Thanksgiving dinner.

Have a look at the few listed on Smart Shanghai:

^Kind of the same thing for Christmas dinner in the UK. I passed a restaurant from a chain called "Brewers Fayre" and they were advertising it for 36 quid, thats roughly 400rmb and this is a crap place.

300rmb does not sound too bad and i've never had a bad meal in Malones.

wtf is this Mexican and French Thanksgivings? It sounds ridiculously stupid... We don't do "american dia de los meurtos" with budweisers and nascar...

Is this because I'm American that I think this is retarded? Or did all the restaurants see a holiday and say "hey! free money! sh*t we can't cook turkey... Lets just cook the same stuff and charge more!"

Ok, i do need to agree that the weds night mixer deal of 25 rmb per drink is pretty competitive and they do offer free snacks as well. I havent been to weds night in a while though. maybe its time to hit it up again. is the vibe there still good?
