Post subject: Spine Health and Back Pain

What causes back pain? Is there a way to exercise to help releave the pain? How does back pain relate to the spine?

Probably lots of causes, it would help if you can specify exactly where the pain is, and what kind of pain it is (throbbing? stabbing?) The most likely problem these days is just tiredness/tension from sitting with a bad posture in front of a computer for too long. There's many ways to relieve the pain, including stretching, mild exercise to build up the strength of tired muscles, massage, chiropractors and even acupuncture.

gosh, i really don't know, but i bet it won't be long until a friendly chiropractor shows up here to answer this question. what a fortuitous coincidence that your very first question will soon be answered by someone who can offer you an amazing cure for back pain!

It started with lower back pain a few years ago. Now my legs are also quite sore and my toes can become numb after walking for too long.

I've tried acupuncture, but it only removes the pain for a day or so.

Is there a website for that doctor? I'm a little concerned about non-English speaking people. I'd like to get a few options together and begin meeting doctors.

oh, i'm not cynical...i just appreciate the little marvels life brings us. what an incredibly happy circumstance that Blaine on his first post was able to find a chiropractor who also made his or her first post!

a cynical person would think this was a setup, perhaps a scam to generate some unpaid advertising. i prefer to believe the stars aligned for Blaine.

There must be a clinic or a provider for people in your position. It would be hard to diagnose your condition. You need to be examined. Please do some research and find some medical help

Hi Everyone,
I also had a similar back pain sometime back, but I neglected it and thought that it would be because of the long shifts of work on the computer. Lately, it started to increase and became unbearable. I would suggest you to meet a doctor as soon as possible and get it checked as the earliest.

I've done a little research and found a Korean Hospital called Wooridul. Wooridul sounds like worry in English. Has anyone heard of this hospital?

There is also an American clinic called SinoUnited. Has anyone been to either of these places?

@ deoduo "I hope you're back pain is incurable"

No.

That will invite fury from the expat community.

Please advise your clinic location for the OP.

I have an appointment at Wooridul Internationa Spine Hospital next week. I plan to see what they have to say about my leg pain. Their website says they have MRI, CT, and X-ray for the spine (www.wolide.com/en). It says their head doctor has made over 6000 surgeries in Korea. We'll see.........

After this I plan to go to SinoUnited. Has anyone been to SinoUnited? It is very expensive. What is the benefit of seeing their Chinese doctors?

Dear Blaine,

I think you made the right choice by going to Wooridul. My sister and I came to Shanghai in July for her spine surgery. We spent a great deal of time researching spine hospitals to find the best surgeon--I believe Wooridul has the best. Good luck with your appointment. I know you will find it to be the best hospital in the world.

Just this week Landseed hospital in Puxi has two new Chiropractors. One is from America and the other is Australian trained. They are offereing a free spinal screening and health chat as a way for the public to come and meet them. The number at Landseed hospital is 2281 1822 , it is easy to find as it is at the corner of of West Yan' an rd and Jiangsu Rd.

Really... I've heard that Wooridul is absolutely terrible.

I'm not sure if it is true but someone once said that some of their medical staff got their degrees from cornflakes packets.

Apparently it's also owned by disreputable people who abuse website privileges, and think that all foreigners are rich and stupid.

I would avoid all of those suggestions at all costs if I were you. I'm sure everyone else here will too.

You might be right. I heard the world will end in 2012.

I went to Wooridul Hospital yesterday afternoon. Here is what I found:

1. Doctor's consulting fee - RMB 300
2. Brand-new Philips 16 Chanel Spiral CT scan - RMB 1,200
3. Brand-new Philips MRI - RMB 4000
4. Brand-new GE BMD (Bone Mineral Density) - RMB 1000

The hospital was in a residencial area, but the condition of the hospital was the best I've seen in Shanghai. Everything was new and clean.

Doctor Jung answered all my questions and I don't need surgery. Doctor Jung was the President of the Seoul Wooridul Hospital where the former South Korea President of Roh Moo-Hyun took his surgery in 2004.

All of the scans were digital. I have a copy of all the scans on a CD that includes sofware to view the scans on any PC. I was also given an educational package of exercises that will releave my back pain and strenthen my legs.

I am satified with my experience.
