| Post subject: We keep on producing hatred, don't we |
Ok, I am starting this topic not defending Chinese but bringing forward some my questions.
What do you mean by sub-nation?
So city discriminate rural
Scotch and English
German and Jews(past term)
white and black
rich and poor.
What?Son, You can not talk to them, they are from slums. ----they are black, they are jews, they are ....
So, how many other reasons can you think of to judge a nation as whose people are 100% inferior?
So, many foreigners are seeing Chinese as lower race.It is true.
However, even within China, some provinces are discriminated, a city would say its neighboring city low, Shanhainese look down upon people from other places.
What's wrong with people? are people supposed to be so full of hatred and prejudice?
Why? Education? Manner? Looks?
I'd say that the nicest person I ever met is a guy who is poor, uneducated man, he is short, he sometimes pick his nose in front of people, he spits in public not knowing that he is being impolite. but he keeps on helping people he knows or not, he sheds tears for other's suffering. I bet you never met a human being like him, if he has some education, he could be the second Martin luther king.
So what? Since you have realized it is not good to litter, it is not good to spit whenever you want, you are more civilized, so you are superior to other race ? We can't judge like that.
It is commenly known that real kind heart usually exsit in the poor-uneducated people.(Of course, also the busters.) I am sorry to mention that the very few foreigners I know are just cool-blooded, they soonly left me when i was down.(Still I would say, in every country there are both good and bad ones.)
Human just need better civilization, not just good manner, behave nobly.
Not defending Chinese, I myself are always angry with some behaviour of my fellow |

most of the racism in world today began when the Aztecs kicked the Irish out of Belgium because the Irish were importing Cubans from Laos for marriage. This ultimately disrupted the flow of 8-track players from China to Constantinople, leading to the Spanish Intermission of 1478. |

Of course there is nothing wrong with spitting/crapping in public/pushing/yelling, but if China wants truly to be a 21st century nation at the forefront of progress, it needs to clean its act up. |

It isn't bestiality. It's an artistic representation thereof. Along the lines of Magritte's "The Treachery of Images" series - "ceci n'est pas une pipe" etc. |

Yeah OP, I think by making a broad statement "we", you are confusing some people of what your point is. Not everybody on the forum look down upon Chinese people.
You need to be more specific with who you want to educate.
For example, you may call on ClarenceBodicker and say "You stupid ignorant racist."--I think that would be a much better point made.
ps: I enjoyed reading your post though, beautifually done. |

vickyyan- I think you are right on, but I think a lot of the anger and viciousness in foreigners has a lot to do with the stresses of expat life.
That may sound silly, considering that, generally speaking, we make more money and have a higher standard of living than the average local, but as expats, many of us experience culture shock and depression. We get tired of what we consider bad air, bad food, crowded subways and the volume of the city and all of this translates into a "China sucks and so do Chinese people" attitude. We all have "China days" as we call them where we don't think we can handle any of it any more.
Throw in the fact that someone doesn't speak Chinese, and you have all of the ingredients for a somewhat frustrating existence.
I myself have "China days" on a regular basis and I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I find myself wondering how my search for understanding of Chinese culture has led me so close to that thin line between slightly frustrated foreigner and the people who go postal in subway stations. It's not funny, but it's true.
and it's not an excuse for ignorance or blatantly being mean.
but it's my take on why we all seem so angry. |

Yeah, it tends to get worse rather than better the longer you're here, which is why many long-termers develop an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" mentality. |

That is about the best comeback possible in racism root arguments. Brilliant! |

OP: Many Chinese have an inferiority complex. This makes CFhinese feel that foreigners are superior, when in fact we are all just normal down to earth people. It's your country and the "face" and wealth thing that makes you feel inferior, not us. In the UK it is rude to talk about someone;s money. In China it's OK. That's why. |

Yeah, in the U.S. it was EXTREMELY difficult to get even close work friends to divulge their salary. Culturally it's pretty much forbidden. =P |

I had to tell the HR kid what my annual salary was yesterday. I was so uncomfortable I wrote it down on a post it note. He probably thought I was nuts. Back home, people even go as far as to downplay their wealth. My parents always insisted we were middle class even though I spent my whole life in prep school and they paid for university. |

Wow, geee lucky you. prep school and paid for university. So why don't you stay home and enjoy the full life as you describe? Because they paid you $5/hour to be an internet spook in Shanghai? |
