| Post subject: HOW DO I TURN ON THE DAMN HEATER? |
It's freezing tonight, this place has zero insulation. I have an LG wall mounted unit in my room that i'm told does air and heat. I've tried turning it on and setting it to 30c but it's still cool air. I can't figure out how to put it on "heater" mode.

looks like u have to hit the middle button in the 1st row of 3.
it prolly will show/switch mode in the little display, then u prolly need to read chinese to know which one is heat. |

As quoted above, first hit middle button of 1st row of 3. You can then look for selections with the character 热for heat. There will probably be another character before that one but try any selection with the heat character. Then use the bottom left button 风速to adjust wind velocity.

Usually it displays an icon for the mode, step thru the selection.
A snowflake is cool, a sun shape is heat, a water drop is dehumidfy.
An "A" within a circle is automatic mode.
There is also a icon for the louvers to move, turn on/off ,left/right and up/down.
Another icon is for the fan speed, and will have it's own set of lines/icons to show the velocity.
Most have a sleep timer to turn off after 1, 2 or 3 hours, look for a number on the display.
Just play with it until you find the right settings, can always it turn off and start over.
Allow a few minutes for the system to charge itself as it's not instantaneous. |

Just a suggestion...this is what I did...I brought mine to work and made a copy of in on the copy machine...then I gave the copy to someone and had them translate it for me...now I keep nice and cool in the summer and warm in the winter!!! |

Right, hit the middle button until you see 制热or暖房. Then adjust the temperature button to what you want. |

Yes, turning the temperature to 30 degrees won't help if it's still on air conditioning mode you have to change it to heat mode / reverse cycle first. Having said that, is it really indoor heating weather time already? |

Yeah man...Its freaking Freezing out here. The temperatures have risen today and it is not as cold as yesterday but still. I hope it snows here  |

Nope. I doubt I'll turn my heater on before the end of December. The last two winters I was here, I only needed the heat in January and February, and that was about it. |

wear more layers of clothes! its not that cold. spoiled foreigners are like my post 85 roommate, she wear a t-shirt and shorts in winter in her room and put the heating on 28degree.. is it that much trouble to put a sweater on ? |

Oh my goodness... I feel kind of stupid now, this whole time, I thought the air conditioners in my apartment only blew cold air. I had no idea they were also heaters. I was about to go buy some space heaters. Thanks to this thread I pushed a few buttons on the remote and now it's nice and toasty in here. Thanks guys!

it is if you're from California and never see temperatures below 55F/13C.

yeah i got it all figured out finally, but i'm sick now. being cold for so long while learning how to operate the heater must have disrupted my wei. |

Yes, and let's stop cooking meat or using cars. Technology exists for your comfort, use if you want, don't blame the others if they refuse to live like cavemen. |

Heaters can be found at carrefour, or other electrical appliances shops. There are the expensive, higher end models and those available for between 300 to 500 rmb.
Haven't used one of these before, so I'm not sure which model is good enough. |

Electric blankets... Mrs Zak bought one, a double ; but there was only one controller for it. Flew back to Oz, bought a Chinese made EB with 2 controllers, 1 for each side and we're both happy !
Winter in Shanghai ? "You aint seen nothing yet".

If your sick because you were a little cold for a few hours in the beginning of Nov.....I think you might want to consider moving out of China...I recommend Hawaii |
