Post subject: IP conflicts w/ China Telecom wireless router

We're using the stock China Telecom modem / wireless router, but are having IP conflicts if we try to have more than four computers connected (wirelessly) to the router at the same time.

If we upgrade the router, will this solve the problem? Would we need to keep the Telecom router hardwired to the new router because the Telecom router is also the modem?

Semi-related: I've been seeing a "Free Public WiFi" wireless network near my home. Is this for real, or a scam?

I have same thing (rare) with 3 notebooks. It's rare, so i don't care.

Never use FREE WiFi, it's connected to black holes of Universe. Shocked

IP conflict means two or more comptuers are using the same IP address (e.g, 192.168.1.123) in the same network. which mean, you will have to manually set each computer with different IP address. (e.g, 192.168.1.123, 192.168.1.124, 192.168.1.125, 192.168.1.126)

or

maybe your router is set as you can only use three IP adresses or less. re-setup, but you don't need to upgrade or reinstall your router firmware.

if you are near busy business area, you might be able reach some of unsecured wifis. i think i saw that 'free public wifi' in some places like xintiandi or the thumb plaza.

Thanks for the responses. I'll see whether we're able to figure out how to re-configure the router (I think it came pre-configured).

I'm picking up that free wi-fi near Su Zhou creek. Not a major business area, which makes me even more suspicious that it's a scam.
