Post subject: American/ Taiwanese in Shanghai

I am wondering if anyone has similar experience like me to share some thought. My American husband and I (Taiwanese) are currently living in the states with my two 7 and 5 years old daughters. They both are proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in tradition Chinese characters. One of main attractions for us to consider being relocated to China is that we would like both of them to go to Taiwanese school in Shanghai. By doing this, they will have solid Chinese foundation. (Of course, we will hire private tutor to educate them in English.) I have searched on the Web and found a Taiwanese school in Shanghai (East Bilingual School), however, they require students to be Taiwanese. My questions are:

How did other kids with the similar background make through schools in China?
Also, can my kids be enrolled into the school? I have sent the question to the school but did not hear from them yet.

Thanks!

A lot of kids with Asian background (Taiwan, Sinagpore, Hong Kong, even Korean) go to Singapore International. But if you want your kids to know Chinese, why not put them in local schools? And just curious, why do you think Taiwanese schools teach better Chinese than China Chinese schools?

XYZ123,

Thanks for replying. I did not think Taiwanese school is better than China school. The reason I would prefer my kids being in Taiwanese school because I have been using the text books from Taiwan to teach them Chinese and I also prefer them to learn traditional Chinese characters. It seems make sense for my kids to continue their Chinese education in Taiwanese school. However, I would be open minded to see what Singapore school has to offer as I do not want them to discontine their learning in English as we will return to the states in few years. Do you know if Singapore school emphasizes its education in English and Chinese equally? Thanks!
