Bliss,

Could be the router not dialing up for the IP address. Since adsl gives dynamic IP, the address is taken back at a set timeframe(we know China IP address resource is pretty competitive, there is no fixed IP), so your drop off is actually "losing the IP address".

We use a wireless AP(access point) and set up the LAN at home for my 3 computers without any drop off problems, we have fttb+LAN by CT.
the only difference is that we have a VoIP gateway that has the router function and dials up periodically to retain the IP address.

So check with your router and see if it's doing the frequent dial up function for the IP address. Probably only needs setting.

Hi #1VoIPFan,

Thank you so much for your professional advice. Other than my wireless AP(access point) I only have a very simple router which is not programmable(with 1 input and 4 outputs only) and I do not think it provides any frequent dial up function, can't the ADSL does the function ?
I believe if I change it to Tian Yi Tong, the problem will be disappear since it should do this type of function (for wireless), do you agree ?

Thanks again !

I recently changed from ADSL to cable modem in the hope that it might get faster.........It doesn't make a difference at all. Opening Yahoo mal is a lucky draw like before. I actually don't think that the problem is the crowded ADSL or Cable backbones. You can try to donload something from http://download.microsoft.com , it is extremely fast, uses the complete badnwidth that u signed for (I had an open ADSL and 7Mbit download from Microsoft servers, now with the cable modem it is 1.5). So what the heck is wrong with this stupid internet here? I mean ok, bad enough that they block a lot of pages, but i can still live with that, but why do they deliberatly slow down certain ISPs? I am running a small private webpage at a german ISP and recently changed to a new ISP because of a better price and also because in a lot of tests the speed was much faster. Now I cannot download emails from my POP account (timeout) and my page needs ages to open, if it opens at all. Sometimes, let's say 2 days per month, it is suddenly extremely fast.

If I access it over a proxy server, the speed is amazing, full bandwidth again. So what the heck to they do here????? I am really fed up.

little update on the microsoft download page:

just used neo trace, they have a server in hangzhou at silk road tech. this is why it is so fast, if u access it from inside china, you are connected to a chinese server, not to the us.........

bops,
sorry to hear about your troubles -- it's not encouraging, because I've been through it and more. Wasted a lot of time and money on moving websites to a new host (after testing) and now that host is almost impossible to reach from here and my sites are ... blocked?, i guess, but w/o any regularity.

I'm thinking the only solution is to go with a Chinese host, or move out of Shanghai.
