| Post subject: China visa required?? |
Hello,
Can anyone please advise regarding the need for visa in Shanghai? The following conditions are valid:
* Born in Hong Kong, but has a Swedish citizenship
* Has a HK permanent identity card (right of adobe in HK)
* Has also the "pass through" permit that HK citizens can apply when travelling to mainland China
* I'm going to Shanghai for about 5-6 weeks this summer for studying mandarin
Given the above, my guess is that I don't need a China visa, but of course I want to be sure before I arrive.
Please advise directly on the issue or direct me to good information sites on the web.
Thanks,
Hoi-Ming |

I supposed the "pass through" permit you mentioned is what we called "hui xian zheng". If so, then you don't need to apply for the visa, unless you want to enter China as a Swedish citizen, that is, you use your swedish passport as the travel document. If you use the pass through permit to enter China, theoretically, as a Hong Kong citizen, you can stay as long as you like, but sometimes if your stay is more than 6 months, the immigration may challenge you when you leave, though it rarely happens. |
