If you have a Z visa you dont need a residence permit. They are separate anyway.. and even if you have a residence permit you will still need work visa. There are some minor advantages in terms of school access and loan interest rates.. but it is questionable if it is worth the trouble. There are few discussions on this.. here is one.

Presumably HKSAR citizens will not need a Work Permit.

The Z Visa equivalent would be the 'Home Return Card' - this is shown to the Immigration Officer.

Do they need to apply for a Residence Permit?
