| Post subject: Where to go on Maoming Road? |
Hello Everyone,
I've read a lot of posts and seems like the general consenses is that Maoming Road is the place to go for a fun night. I'm going to go there this weekend with a friend and I was just wondering what are the best places to go to and why? Thanks in advance |

You may not want to go there this weekend - its not like it used to be. Empty street, bright bars and low-to-no music. See other threads for the scope on Mao Ming these days. It did used to be a blast. A bit quieter these days. |

There are literally hundreds of places you can go in Shanghai (i'm trying to visit as many as possible). Zapatas is a blast - especially on wednesday nights (check out other threads) on the corner of Hengshan Lu, Dongping Lu. Theres also Pegasus and Rojam on HauiHai Lu, Murals.... the list goes on and on.
Tonight i'm going to do some 'research' for a magazine review of Fenyang Lu which apparently has loads of bars along it and is very famous. I've never heard of it - but theres the Dragon Club, Silver Moon, Paulaner, T & B Bar... If its any good i'll let you know. |

Yes, Maoming Lu is finished. Some places (Buddha Bar for instance) already gave up, other bars alreay signed a lease on another street and will move there one by one. As I posted earlier Judy's Thursday's 80's Night will be held on a Friday night in Pegasus, this Friday for the first time and it might be held once a month from now on. For those of you who want to hear those tunes on a Thursday night as it used to be still have The Spot, first floor of Irene's Thai on Tongren Lu. |

Kind of depends what you want to do. Dancing, drinking, sitting quietly, live music, people watching . . . In addition to the the bars on Feng Yang Lu that Newboy listed there is also the Blarney Stone (on Hengshan Road) and Cotton's (great garden for nice nights). You can go to O'Malley's, Malones, Park 97 (Upstairs is good) - they do charge a cover at Park now, Guandi (dancing), Face (sitting and talking), The Door, Sasha's (next to Zapata's - good garden), Red, the list goes on and on. Zapata's in also fun on the weekends, although try to go when it is not raining otherwise the space gets a bit tight. And be careful of people pouring drinks from the second floor to the dance area - I never manage to leave that place unless I have been soaked! All in good fun though! You should have a good time wherever you go! |
