Temporary Passports in China

Post subject: Temporary Passports in China

Hi All

Quick question regarding access into China. I have just renewed my passport and in doing so, had to apply for a temporary one (valid only for 1 year) as I will be leaving for China prior to the permenant one arriving from my home office. Will the authorities accept temporary passports at Pu Dong Airport?

Also, I will be getting a work permit from my company in Shanghai, which means that they will be issueing me with a temporary residents visa in the temporary passport. So there are two parties to deliberate with over this matter......?

I know that one or two countries in the world don't accept temporary passports...is China one of them?

Yep. They generally only issue temps from outside the country (or so is my understanding) Once you get here your employer will take it and get yer residence permit. Make sure you do it right away as it can be tricky if one leaves it for too long.
