Post subject: Discounts on Phone card?

Hiya,

The first week I was in Shanghai, my estate agent came with me to buy an IP card to call home and I paid RMB 100 for a RMB 100 card!

I've heard since that you could pay 50% for the same card! Now why did she not tell me so?

Anyway could it be it was because I bought it in Jinqiao Carrefour (i.e. they don't do any discount?) or because it was a CNC card?

I am now running out of units on my mobile phone and I use China Telecom.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to have any discount on the IP card and on the mobile card? Again in Jinqiao Carrefour.

Cheers!

Some IP cards are sold at face value (e.g. in some convenience stores) but this is very rare.

I have got discounts up to 60% (normally I pay 45 RMB for a 100 RMB 17911 card, which is nice because you can bind it to your home phone negating the need to dial so many digits each time you call long distance). CNC cards are normally heavily discounted. I would consider 50% discount on IP cards about standard.

The mobile phone recharge cards are almost never discounted (the only exceptions I know of are the high value recharge cards (I think the lowest is RMB 1500) for China Mobile VIPs only, and cards that may have a very slight discount of a few RMB near campuses away from city center). The margins are certainly pretty thin.

you can buy IP cards for 32 rmb/100 rmb value card at this little shop located in the Jiaotong University campus ground at Xujiahui. (I got that offer through bulk purchases though)

The cheapest and most reliable system is provided by www.1cellnet.com. No hassle with cards or lenghty PIN codes, no expiry of call credits, and usable from landline and mobile phone. You can PM me for details.

izanami ,

Jiaotong U. is not far from me. What shop are you referring to? Inside the campus or just outside? If outside, is it by the front entrance on HuaShan Lu or the side entrance by GuangYuan Xi Lu?

How many cards you'd have to buy to get the bulk rate of 32RMB?

We buy the 100RMB 17930 (or is it 19730, 17390, something close...) phone card at 50RMB but would like to save a bit more if possible.
