| Post subject: Which of the 2 Shanghai Airports to land at? |
Hi,
Which airport to land at?
I heard there are two airports.
One 30 minutes by taxi to the main city centre, and one closer?
One of them is more modern I also heard....
Thanx. |

pudongs the good one. Its really modern, and a pretty good airport. I haven't been to hong qiao in probably 8 or so years, but the last time I was there, the airport was a bit rundown, and it felt more like a chinese train station than an airport. At any rate, most int'l flights now land at pudong I think. |

It depends on where you live. I live in the Xu Hui district and Hongqiao is closer to me. It's definitely older, but it is still a good airport. I've landed there one time and found it very easy to navigate. I think Pudong is closer if you live in Pudong. I think Hongqiao is likely to be closer to most places in Puxi. You're not likely to have a choice, though, as the international flights all land at PuDong. It's possible that if you connect through Beijing that you will land in Hongqiao. |

Occult, you have little choice about where to land anyway. Most international airlines land at Pudong airport which is 40 minutes away from the city center by car. If you insist on landing at Hong Qiao, it means you have very limited flights to select from. If I were you, I will choose which airline's ticket is cheaper instead of where to land. Taxi from Hong Qiao to city center is about Rmb25.- and Rmb300 from Pudong. But, it costs you only Rmb14.- from Pudong if you take the shuttle bus. |

I don't think there is a choice if you are flying in from outside of China, it will have to be in Pudong airport.
Taxi to city is around RMB 130-160 depending on where you live. For those on budget, there are always shuttle bus to take as alternative.
Hongqiao only takes in certain domestic routes. |
