I have heard alot about shanghainess, they told me that a lot foreigners go crazy about shanghainess, is it true that gals are extremely pretty there??

no... who told you that? i dont mean to offend anyone but shanghai girl are not "pretty" in general... they may be prettier than girls from other cities in china but definetely no burnetts or blondes let me tell you. Guys find women wherever they live, thats life! So do women

I think the beautiful people of Polynesia are from here.
The mothers here call their daughters "very fashionable".
I think their diet keeps them slim and most have long hair.

Anyway of course the moms are gonna say that the girls are fashionable, half of the moms still wear those skin colored socks which means anything that looks slightly normal will be fashionable to them. i think there's some really pretty girls around here but if you hardly ever see any just walking around the streets. I think that you'd be able to see a lot more pretty girls here if they learned to dress and style themselves a bit better, but I am sure this will happen in time.
If you gpo out you'll see a bunch of pretty girls but no more than enywhere else!

They don't look like the girls on TV or posters, but once in a while you will see pretty girls around the city, especially going out Fridays. I wouldn't come here for that one reason alone.........

do you have to be very dressed up and wear a lot of make up to go out? how about if they just wear normal clothing(but decent) without make up stuff ? will you get a lot of flak?

What I know about shanghai, you need not to be so "dressy" to go out. Casual wear is fine.
I don't know what is considered "abnormal" (vs. normal) clothing. But in shanghai, no one cares what you wear. Wear pajama walk around, fine! Wear Gucci and show up at Park 97, ewh, great!

It seems certain pea brain is trying so hard to hide chinglish while harshly criticize others' chinglish in another thread. Ever trying, therefore, each post, can't have more than 2-3 sentences. What a miserable pea-brain!

If anyone is in the hope of seeing pretty Asian-face ladies, I suggest going to South Korea, in Seoul, or at those skiing resorts. Face, makeup, dress, hair, you can expect everything except their speaking English Rolling Eyes

Yes, there are some major babes here. LOTS of them. (Disclaimer: I find Asian women to be extremely attractive...) But Shanghai has no monopoly on this...
If Shanghai [img]does[/img] have a higher proportion of pretty girls, perhaps it's not so much genetic as it is the fact that Shanghai draws in young, talented people (and "talent" can take so many forms, my friends) from a very large area of the world. Dalian did the same thing, on a smaller scale, in DongBei.

You should also consider the other side of the coin. Shanghainese women have a reputation- among Chinese men at least as much among foreigners- for being mercenary, cold, mean, bitchy, whiny, demanding, self-centered, foul-tempered, and emotionally unstable. You'll have to decide for yourself if it's true or not, and luck of the draw will shape your assessment considerably. Personally, I'll think a lot more than twice about ever becoming involved with another one. At the very least I'll be slow and careful in my choices. I have met what seem to be some really nice girls here too.

Of course, bluemoon already knows all this, since they are Chinese themselves. No one else spells it "Shanghainess".

Pretty women are everywhere, not only in Shanghai. But most of Shanghainese girls are nice, of course there are mean self-centered ones, like in everywhere in the world. Anyway, it all depends on individual. Smile

Major babes surely not. Unless all you care for is to get a (often) skinny, 'lame', dull, boring, narrow-minded and self-centred young lady. But I guess that all tastes need their match.

To answer Bluemoom's guestion if the gals in Shanghai are extremely pretty? The anwer is definitely NO. However, if the question was worded differently as Are there extremely pretty gals in Shanghai? Then the answer woluld be Yes. Maybe I'm playing the words too much, but to me the first question was inclusive ALL gals in Shanghai although I know that's not what Bluemoom meant.

Why would there be extremely pretty girls in Shanghai? Simple! SH is a huge city with a population of at least 17 million. Out of which I don't know what percentage begong to the "gals" bracket. No matter how one sorts out, this bracket of population would still contain an emornous number. It'll be easier to find beautiful women among a vast data base vs say a city of 100,000. So it's safe to say there are more beauties in the State of California than the State of Rhode Island. Isn't it?

Another reason why there seems to be more pretty girls in SH could be more Shangnese girls were better educated. They certainly can be eloquent talkers, and dress better. Personally, I think beauty is not skin deep. A pretty girl/woman ought to be intellectural, interesting, kind and charismatic. I can't stand shalow women who are selfish, discriminating, demanding and chasing after men who can give them easy access to richness, fame and/or a foreign passport. I also don't think firls can be pretty if they put lots of makeups, wear poor-taste clothes and don't know how to act and talk.

It woudln't be fair to sterotype all Shanghainese girls to be materialistic or shallow or are gold diggers. I do know, however, many Shanghainese parents who don't frown their daughters dating foreigners. I spoke with some who said if their daughters marry the foreigners, they can leave China and make a lot of money. I think they watch too many Hollywood movies adn get the notion that most Americans or westerners(Japanese too) are wealthy.

Getting back to the subject, based on Chinese believes, good drinking water can nurish pretty girls. If that scenario holds ture, Shanghai ladies wouldn't be that pretty. We all know the quality of water in SH sucks. Oh well, maybe they all grew up with bottled water(J/K).

Personally, I have seen many more beautiful Asian gals in the States. I like girls that are well brought up with manners. well educated who know as much as their male counterparts, and iare ndependent women who don't rely on men to be providers. Beauty is short lived but not wisdom.

Football fields full of beautiful women, but hey : if you expect to have a conversation in English with them... forget it. Nice to look at, but most are unconscious of their sexuality. They are indoctrinated to believe that they are 'girls' until marriage, even at the age of say, 27-28. The behavious is coquettish and often 'hard to get'. Take your chances mate.

IMHO the Shanghaiese girls are nothing special physcially. Obviously they dress nicer than girls from the countryside since they have more cash. Personality-wise they tend towards the superficial, vain, materialistic, self-centered end of the spectrum. Obviously with many exceptions. But the one child policy and current ecnomic boom probably hasn't helped things, since it has made the young generation rather self-centered and money focused.

Talking about Mainland Chinese girls. . . it is a cliche but in my expereince seems true. Sichuanese girls have very nice skin. Nice accents too. Meanwhile Cantonese girls speak the sexiest dialect by a country mile.

But generally, if you want attractive Chinese girls then I would say Taiwan and Malaysia/Indonesia are good places to look. Taiwanese are friendlier and more independent than Mainlanders. Malayisan and Indonesian Chiense are very natural, which IMHO makes them beautiful.

If you want 'beautifully packaged' girls (i.e. artificial and contrived, but also charming - like Sushi. . .) then Japanese girls are the way to go.

Finally, although I have by no means conducted a scientific survey, Korean girls are quite passionate, which translates to brilliance in bed. Like the way they use makeup too.

I hate this tiresome myth, that is put-about by none other than shanghainese girls themselves to up their market value. Maybe in chinese eyes they r whiter or something, but to me they r nothing specail at all, only arrogant liitle tramps.

I teach hundreds of teenage girls girls every year and get a good cross-section ( all shanghainese). They r the same, if not worse than English girls, and that is about as big as insults get.

So many cute little country girls out there cleaning shoes or something, if only they knew their worth.

Yeah, totally agree with Fukuman. A complete myth.

The Shanghai dialect does horrible things to a girl's accent too BTW.

And some of the country girls are very good looking and refreshingly unpretentious. Unfortunately, the Chinese countryside being the way it is, they can be a little rough around the edges (noisy clearing out of phlem at dawn etc.).

Yea fkman has a VERY good point: the natural beauty of waidiren. They are basically just there, existing, like clothes drying on a wire, and you can really see this core of beauty and grace that makes most fabricated shanghainese cyborgs look like a pink rubber pineapple. This pure and raw beauty of the Chinese women (specially waidiren and specially Western China waidiren) is something that, as fukuman and Kiwi point out, they are not even aware. If they only knew...oh my god, they could have us by the tonsils, by the balls. The cleaners in my office are gracious, SIMPLE, happy people. Genuine happy. Trying to survive, every day a new day. No aspirations to have a fake lv bag nor a new pair of shoes. Their aspirations are an honest and simple life....or at least some other more mundane values that hurt no one other than themselves.. They have a 200rmb/month salary, but they EXIST (and resist) there, hanging tight on their own inocence. There must be a sobrenatural entity looking after this people, day in day out they make a rainy day with no taxis look like a trip to an interesting museum. Thumbs up for the waidiren! They are the real China, me thinks. They are the majority that makes this country great. They are the real China, not the bimbo screwing their employees with 16h/day no smoke stop lives or the assassins poisoning baby milk to send his own kids to university abroad, legally perpetuating his crimes. If you stop and think about the 80% of the 80/20 rule you will see why China, more than anything, DESERVES a future. The 20%, like most 20, are rotten, and rotten to an extent that makes many of the worse scum abroad pale.
Fck, I need to leave this city. I'm just starting to realize how happier could I be just by being surrounded by REAL people, not this mostly little dirty fantasy we bang our knees everyday on.

Chinese girls are more "raw" than other places in Asia. China is "raw" in general. What I mean is, these people are really not very cleaned up and delicate and beautiful as you may think. It's hard to explain, but they all kind of have a poor peasant backwards mentality even in Shanghai. I find them a little sleazy and a little dirty. The ones that put on make up and get all dressed up walk around with very mean looking faces with their nose in the air with extreme arrogance. This type is not sweet but very cruel and are only after money. The peasants are nicer and sweeter in general, but still very "raw", direct, and not so elegant. For instance, they will have hairy armpits and chew with their mouth open. Han Chinese girls are not exotic either. I find them very plain, and empty to be honest. Some of them have sexy figures and nice skin and can be very kinky, but all in all, they lack in so many areas.
In bed, they can be good and bad. I find a lot of them lazy in bed and want the guy to do all the work. Some can really ride you like a bronco though.
Anyone who has been to southeast Asia like Thailand or Vietnam, knows that the women in China lack in so many ways compared to them.
