Post subject: Need info on cell phone purchase

Can you recommend any cheap brand/model of a cell phone that will work in all of Asian countries? I want to buy a cell phone when i am in HongKong, because I am told my phone will not work there. A phone will help me to stay in touch with new friends, and also help me make travel arrangements.

Is there such a cell phone that will work in many asian countries such as HongKong, China, Bali, Philippines, Thailand? I would not want to waste money by buying a new phone for every country visited. I hope that I can use a single phone for all these places.

Thanx for the info...

I have a cell phone from Sprint PCS in California which will not work outside USA, and I have yet to buy a phone there. Hong Kong is my jump point for Asian travel, hence i want to buy one there. This is my first time visit to China, so I am excited.

A GSM phone would be the best choice. If I am not wrong, only country in this part of the world that can't use GSM is Japan.
