Post subject: School Uniforms

I have noticed that school children do not wear uniforms everyday. Somedays you will see entire groups of students in the uniform and other days, not one student will have it on.

Why?

When attending schools that required uniforms, we always had to wear the uniform, no questions asked. Maybe there was one day a year where the uniform would not be required, but that's it. The rest of the time, it was uniform or no school.

students dont wear uniform unless there is a special occasion, any kind of ceremony, celebration.

It is different from school to school. Some schools require the students to put school uniforms on throughout the week while others only require them to wear on occasions like sports meet or flag-raising ceremony.

Thanks for clearing that up ... has been on my mind for years.

If anyone happens to read this thread again I have another question ... don't the schools raise the flag everyday? What is a flag raising ceremony?

Schools do raise flags every day. However, a flag raising ceremony is usually held once a week, often on Monday mornings. It includes speeches, announcements and notices.

And my neighbours son, has to wear its uniform only when sportmeetings on Tuesday. He says he also like to wear it other days, because he's proud of being in that school.

For primiary school children, there's one near my home and I see hordes of 小学生们 every morning on my way to work. yellow cap, red scarf and light/dark blue uniform. And everyday the all rush by me saying: "Hello, Hi" etc. Gives me a smile everyday

our school requires all students wear uniform everyday,even requires all teachers wear uniform everyday.it's so strange.unifrom is just an image of school,to show school discipline and order.all my students tell me they hate uniforms! why not cancel the uniform system?
i think,nobody likes uniform except school itself.

I didnt like to wear the school uniforms when i was in primary, junior and senior high school. The ex-uniforms which were middle-blue and with a very big white collar were thought to be ugly by me and of course my other classmates. Actually we all think it was invented in 70's and still used in the late 90's.

The style and color are very important actually. The school cant expect their students to wear the uniforms everyday if the uniforms cant keep the pace with the times.

yes that's an interesting thing. keeping the image while still keeping up with the times. how often should they change the style of the uniforms? How up to date can they be without loosing the steady image? I'm sure it's due some places though.
I think they should have clear plastic with flashing lights to match the cell phones. I bet that wouldn't be unpopular!

Well they do walk in sportshoes which lights up with every step they take or those nice rollershoes where you can walk and rollerskate at same time (and wishing they don't break any other things including bones, cause no break on it)

Got almost bumbed over by a Child with those nasty shoes, wooshed right passed me. Men even the sidewalk inside my resident erea is getting dangerous Shocked

does anybody know where they sell those uniforms? and if they have big people's sizes? hahaha

i was making it the theme for my next fiesta.

About uniforms, students have been wearing uniforms for a very long time, not just China, as we all know. There are a few reasons, e.g. wearing a uniform levels the playing field, as not all students can compete with one another when it comes to styles and or don’t have the money, and in fact are wearing “hand me down clothes”…a uniform alleviates issues with peer pressure. The styles stay consistent in part because of tradition, and also expense, as the students buy them, or actually their parents do. Also there is the distraction factor…students will be distracted by looking at others clothes, rather than focusing on studies. It is also said that wearing a uniform teaches students conformity and discipline. And finally there is the issue of dress standards. If uniforms are worn, there is little need to be concerned about students abusing standards.

And yes, I had to wear a uniform, and I didn’t like it, but looking back, I can see the logic. If we showed-up at school, in clothes other than the uniform, you had better have a note from your parents, and it had better be for a good reason, or you would be sent home…teachers were very strict, as this was a time before students were filling complaints, and if you got out of line, you would get punished, sometimes physically…students were well behaved then as there were consequences for your actions, and parents supported teachers. I’m not sure that now that I’m a parent, I would allow a teacher to discipline my child…how times have changed.

Maybe an interesting topic, Would you allow a teacher to discipline your child?

I notice that some of the the local uniforms are designed and BRANDED by apparel companies. I wonder who gets the kickbacks here? It kinda made me ill thinking of all the money high schools and colleges back in the states were forking over for Adidas and Nike uniforms. Luke, TV is your faaaaather! 9_9

I know at some schools, the students are only required to wear their uniforms once a week, but they can choose the day, so you always get a random mishmash of uniformed and non-uniformed students...

I put my hand on my heart, said the pledge of allegiance, and sang, "Oh beautiful for spacious skies" every day growing up.
I wore a uniform for a year and a half, twelve months of it in Viet Nam.
I know my Mom and Dad thought it would make me love my country.
I'm a Canadian now and I still love America probably because it is my Mom and Dad's country... but those things didn't help.

my students wear the uniform on mon, weds . its kinda sad the way i spend all day trying to look up their skirt.

have u noticed the funky new kick-drum with daily exercise routine?
gets me grooving every morning. does any1 live out of earshot of those f-ing loudspeakers?

well,i am a local high school student,our school let us wear uniforms everyday though many students don t like but it is a rule,we should allow it.
although the school uniforms in our school is not very good looking,but i think it is necessary to wear,cuz it represent that u are a student,like your ID,and also can prevent some students who are care about their clothes and like to compare with other one,then we can pay more attention to our study.

I noticed school children wearing ID badges, with their name, number and other information, which I couldn’t read, as it was in Chinese. Do all students now have these ID badges?
