Post subject: Immunisations for Newborns

We have just had our second child at the American Sino Ob/Gyn (first one born in UK), and they presented us with a list of immunisations that they recommend and give there. We have deciphered the list and cross-referenced with those of our first-born. and found a couple that are missing:
Meningitis
Mumps
Rubella (the controversial MMR)

We are most concerned about the meningitis (脑膜炎) - has anyone else had the same experience or know if anywhere immunises against that in Shanghai?

Thanks,
Nick

PS American-Sino really excellent! Especially Dr Ji.

Hi Movsovic,

Congratulations! The vacination schedule is a bit different. Our two month old just received the HIB shot (protecting against viral meningitis) at Worldlink. It's included in the Infanrix which is a five in one shot including Polio, Pertussis, Diphtheria, Tetanus, and HIB. I think the MMR (measels, mumps, and rubella) is given later here- around 6 mos.

PS: We take our daughter to the childrens hospital in XUjiahui, our daughter was born in SHA and has been getting all her shots at the childrens hospital (no problems)

Green Clinic in Hong Qiao recommends a meningococcal shot at 18 months. Phone number is 62082255. This is a Japanese clinic so you will probably need the help of a Japanese or Chinese speaker.

thank you, karnex for bringing in an alternative opinion about the dangers of vaccinations!

Today I saw on mothering.com that there is an interesting interview with a doctor who is working to heal children biochemically--lots of these kids were damaged by vaccines. http://www.mothering.com/articles/growing_child/vaccines/biochemistry. html

check it out, it's eye opening!
